not sure if this is related to 1.11, or what, but three glitches i'm having:

1. when i enter an actual game, the music volume turns all the way off. i can fix it manually, but it doesn't save.

2.there's a spot right near the start of act 2 where.. the palm tree clips *underneath* a building's roof.. it may have been there forever and i've never noticed it, but an annoying perspective bug...

3. graphics error. i have an nvidia FX 5200, and it could be related to my videocard, i suppose. just updated to latest drivers, too... the error is this: certain objects (walls in "jail" levels in act 1, structures and buildings in rogue camp and in lut gholein..., bunches of other places in the game world) appear with 'lines' cut out of them (i can see the background through it) i can't find it referenced anywhere else, and I don't know if this glitch has a name, so i'm including a linked image of what i'm seeing: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/allisongeode/Screenshot004.jpg

arrows pointing at spot where glitch is apparent. anyone know how to fix it? none of these effect gameplay, but they're still very annoying to me.

errr, I guess thats actually three glitches (added the 2nd one at the last moment, and in my haste, forgot to change the . title of the thread..)

anyway, umm.. any help would be great. i'll probably post on battlenet open tech support forums, but... they're such a mess, and i've never had ANY problem of mine fixed there, ever..... also: i guess.. you sorta can't see the glitch in my screenshot. *sigh* photobucket resizes the image, and in doing so, takes out the part of the image i was trying to accentuate.... so i deleted it, and cropped the image to be "just" the portion of the image I'm trying to point out. hopefully that helps.

I never had these problems before, but the last time i played through the game was on a different computer.. hopefully, there's a solution...

oh, and one more thing: turning off perspective doesn't fix it. I thought it did at first, but it was just the lighting at the time, once i came back, I noticed that the cut-lines were still there.

ok, i was messing with my graphics settings (under advanced tab, display properties), and this isn't really better, or worse, but it makes the image a lot more clear (before, its most visible while moving), so you can see what I'm talking about. is there any way to fix this, without resorting to directdraw, which runs laggy and looks ugly, anyway?

i realize i look stupid, responding without anyone having a chance to tell me what I'm doing wrong, but i can't just edit the first post (would if I could!) and i'm sort of gathering additional info as I try to work it out on my own....

DirectDraw is supposed to be much faster and smoother than D3D, so the problem is either your videocard, your driver, or driver settings. Try downgrading to older drivers first.

nope, its not smoother or faster, I actually lose a few fps... not unplayable, but.. I can tell the difference.

downgraded drivers didn't help, either. tried that first thing, but at your repeated suggestion, downgraded even further back to a couple years ago, and then even further......
is there anything else that could be causing this?

That's very unusual. Another option is to reinstall D2. The data files might have gotten a bit corrupted, but not enough to crash the game apparantly.

tried that, no dice.

i fiddled with some more settings, tried compatibility mode.. if i run it in windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode the 'cuts' go away if i turn perspective off.... but reappear with it on. this will do for now, i guess, because i'm tired of fussing with it, but if anyone ever figures this out..that would be great!

Have you made sure that Full Scren Anti-Aliassing (FSAA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF) are set to "Off" or "Program Dependent" ?

What also can be a solution is the use of Texture Clamping (you have to google for that, I don't own a Nvidia card). Probably one of these two should offer the solution.

Those are indeed two more options that could cause these cuts. The last feature can be found on both Ati and Nvidia cards nowadays (if you have a recent card anyway.).

I have the same Vid card as you and don't get these problems. Of course I play on DirectDraw and its FAST, but if I play on Direct3D its slow.. =P
