Hi! I'm visiting from the SPF and I have a multiplayer question. Some of us are playing on bnet, and I've started a zon. I will have to start assigning skills very soon (think I'm @ lev 12 atm?) and I've been looking at some builds. I want to choose skills that will be an asset to the team, not trying to be the most uber1337 or anything. I am a bit twinked right now, but this isn't a question of what gear to use, as I'm not sure what will be available. I've seen a lot of pros and cons to strafe and multishot, for instance; curious about what is more effective in team play.

Should I put more than one point in Inner Sight? What about Slow Missiles?

Obviously I am a complete zon novice, so if you simply want to point me to a particular guide of the many, that would be good also. I appreciate any advice you want to offer.

imo a faith zon is best in party just so you can benefit from that godly fanat aura  sorry for the stupid reply

A frozen arrow and strafe build is always team friendly. If you don't have an orb sorc or any other "cold or freeze" build, a zon with FA maxed with some synergies is very team friendly. Baals minions just stand there all blue and not moving.

Check out this build guide here (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=129705). My build on this guide was changed a little. I used 20 in FA and 10 in cold arrow. None in the fire arrow tree. Then 20 in strafe and also maxed valk. That is 70 points right there. 1 each in D/A/E (depening on + to skill gear, you may want to add a couple more) and the other pre-reqs will make a fine team build.

FA uses mana like it is beer, though, but you can strafe to help fill the blue bulb again. It is not the quickest killer but fun and challenging.

Thank you for the speedy replies!

Your reply wasn't at all stupid. It's something to keep in mind.

Thanks for this, the link to the guide, and your variation of it! I was a little worried about not leaving corpses for others to use, but then realized that there should be plenty left.

Since we're not a fixed team, just whoever happens to be around, it's possible that I won't be interfering with a necro's CE or the like anyway.

Level 20 Strafe
Level 20 Fury
Level 17 Valk
1 passives
Level 10-20 penetrate
rest critical/pierce

the best bowazon is also a party friendly bowazon

Since you're new to B.net, I'll recommend the Amazon Dacar92 suggests: the Frostmaiden. Very party friendly by freezing monsters in place. Her Valk will be a meat shield for all of your party members. Also, the equipment for a Frostmaiden is relatively cheap to obtain.

I thought about this, too. But a Lit zon should have synergies in lightening to make her a good killer. For a party I would recommend cold tree instead of lightening. Nothing like a mob of frozen monsters for the rest of the party to finish off. Lit zons are fun too, though.

And I'll third Dacar92's plan. If you have enough mana leech to keep it up, the freezing arrows are incredibly useful. Everything but uniques/champions will be completely helpless. It's hard to get more party-friendly than giving everyone 100% damage reduction.

The only change I'd advise is taking those 20 points out of valkyrie, since you really don't need one with a full party. The other players will spread the damage out enough that a low-level one can survive just fine. Max the damage synergy instead, then spread the rest out over your passives. Pierce is especially important, since each time the arrow pierces, it triggers the splash damage again. Between the other 10 points from valkyrie and your +skills, you should be able to get your passives to the point of diminishing returns.

I was going to ask about some of these things -- glad you brought this up! I looked at a skill planner and saw that more than 10 points in Cold Arrow would be quite nice. I did not realize that Pierce would re-trigger the splash damage (it may be mentioned in the guide or comments but I lost internet connection before I could finish all the comments and had not kept the first page open in a window to re-read the guide)

When I have some free time at work today I will probably be back with more questions. You have all been amazingly helpful.

Wanted to post a note of thanks to all of you for your help!

Aspf the FA/strafer ... my first matriarch ever!

My original potential team was quite far ahead of me, and helped me with equipment and quests along the way, but alas by the time I made it to a level at which I could contribute to a party, they had all gotten bored with bnet or busy with RL.

The good news is -- I've been able to team up with another SPFer plus some people I met during another project (The Ultimate Quest via the Player Matchup forum)! I'm having a wonderful time.
