Exit the game removes the wallpaper in windows! It goes to a blue background, NO wallpaper. The 1.10 patch DIDN'T do this? Why is the 1.11 doing it?
Aye, it seems to be happening to alot of people. Kinda wierd, I guess. I didn't notice it the first time I started playing, because my wallpaper is blue regardless.
hah it does it to me to...
I'm fine, no problems with my wallpaper - what OS are you on, and running what updates/fixes?

I have xp pro and all updates.
I have a black background and a jpg image on my desktop. Exiting D2 makes the image go away, the black background stays. The picture reappears after a reboot, but disappears again after running D2.

EXACTLY the same here
Does this happen when you play online or is it just when you load up diablo.
I paly single player and the other day i think it messed all my icons up , it wasn't displaying them correctly. It was just a white box , seems to be fixed now though

OMG lol!!
My wallpaper has keep disappearing for the last few weeks and I thought I had a hijacker or something like that! I didn't make the association between it and the new D2 patch!
Well at least now I know. If anyone find a "fix" for this that would be great.

On my laptop (xp home, all updates) occassionally the LOD icon on the desktop will have its image replaced by the icon of the most highly ranked other program in the start menu (xp's recently used programs quick start list). Double clicking on the suspect icon will still open LOD, and the icon properties point to LOD. But on the desktop, you see Word's icon, or SpywareBlaster's, instead of LOD's even though it still operates like an LOD icon. Normally I don't have a Word icon on my desktop. But when it switches to Spyware or something, I get "two" Spyware icons on the desktop, the normal one that opens Spyware Blaster and the paste-over one that opens LOD.
edit: my older desktop comp is the one with xp pro and the disappearing jpg image on the desktop. My newer laptop is a different computer with the above behavior.

My guess is that this can be related to a certain videocard series. What videocard and driver version are you guys using?
I'm using ASUS GF FX 5600, latest driver version, Win XP prof (SP1) and never had this problem.

this happening to me too with single player and bnet...
my OS is Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all updates...
this happening to me too with single player and bnet...
To get them back to normal i right clicked on them and then wentto properties and clicked on "change icon" then just applied it and went back to normal.
This didin't change my start menu items which stayed the same but later that day they went back to normal.
The thing is i can't remember if i did anything special too change them , i might have restarted my computer but not 100% sure.
Also i have been playing diablo 2 loads recently and it's never happened again.

get at the battle.net forum post by MicahW:
We have identified that the issue causing the desktop background image to be erased and replaced by a small grey arrow upon exit of the game only occurs with backgrounds set within Internet Explorer. That is to say, backgrounds set by right clicking on an image and choosing 'Set as Background' within Internet Explorer.
Until this issue is repaired it is recommended to save any image you want to be used to your hard drive and manually set it as the background image. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any frustration this has caused.
but it not my problem, bacause i dont set my wallpaper by IE...

i posted an topic in open tech support forum at battle.net and some blizz rep give me this to try:
Have you tried setting the wallpaper through Display in the Control Panel? There have been reports that this resolved the issue.
# Open the Control Panel.
# Open Display.
Note: You may need to set it to classic view to find Display.
# Click on the Desktop tab.
Now, you can click on the Browse button to find your saved wallpaper and set it as the background by clicking on the OK button.
but, here don't work, someone test it to see if its resolve yours problem.

I always set my background via Display Settings, and closing D2 still removes my background. :(
I have BFG GeForce 6600 GT.
yeah same I get it too..the wierd part is when I don't close D2 properly(as in closing it using CTRL-ALT-DEL then end task) it doesn't screw up my desktop... I think they should have tested this patch a little bit before distributing it...it sucks...

I have noticed this too, If I alt-tab out of D2 (i use full screen mode) and close Diablo by right-click at the toolbar D2 square -> close, then the wallpaper remains un-messed-up. Close through D2 exit button -> Blue screen with little white thingy in the middle.
