I found a 6os crystal sword, so I wonder what I can do with it.

I want to build a sword barb, and I am thinking to put six topaz on this sword, so is this going to be a good weapon? Any sword better than this (including unique or set, definitely for low level char)

Thanks

FYI. topaz 1-22 linghting damage, level 12 requirement.

If you want to use it as a leveling weapon, better put +maxdmg jewels into it, either +9 or +15 ones.

+15 Max damage jewels have a level requirement of 18 so I wouldn't do that. A crystal sword has no min level on it I beleive so what you put in it will set the minimum. You can find some decent low level jewels to bump up the min/max damage on it and make it usable around level 3. I made one like that I will see if I can find it and post it. If you truly want big damage it is hard to beat a maul with some empty sockets. Higher str req but high damage. It all depends on how soon you want to use it. Rixot's Keen unique is a very good little sword to start with.

well you have to remember...even though rixot's keen is a low level unique. It doesn't drop nearly as much as it should. My suggestion is to gamble. And gamble. And gamble. :teeth:

You should have socketed the sword with all tal runes. The poison damage is crazy for low levels. Once, I saw this guy who was level 15 (paly) or so and he could do 2k damage!

He used a crystal sword socketed with 6 tal runes and all the max socks in other stuff putting max damage jewels in it. He was owning level 80s+

lol, kills thats a sweet strategy, does anyone know the dmg on tal off the top of their head? I never put tals in weaps, so i dont know

Tal rune is 75 poison/5 seconds and level req of 17 actually.

There are 2 problems with the all poison approach. First of all is that poison damage is reset every time you hit something. So unless you hit something and wait the 5 second duration you never truly get the damage you can do. Basically for 1 Tal run it would be 15 poison damage/second (75/5). The second issue is there were problems with how posion damage displayed in your character window at least in 1.09 versions and previous. I don't know if it is fixed in the newer versions off hand.

Bear in mind you cant leech using elemental damage

The best low level items i think are those that ramp up with the level of the character so I think cleglaws set (usuable from level 4) is quite nice.

The Death set will also see you easily through normal (level 6) and its complete set bonuses are very handy.

I think crystal swords are low durability items and may need a lot of repairing and topazes are best kept for magic find.

My favorite two low-level weapons are the Shadowfang (req. lvl 12), and the Skewer of Krintiz (req. lvl 10). Both have pretty good damage, some very nice leech, and good other mods (+20 stats & ITD on the Skewer, for example). They're also fairly easy to find in normal mode, easier than Rixot's Keen I believe, and have a great look.

Am I the only fan of just picking things up untill I get into my 40s and start using real weapons?

I used to just use what I found but with thousands of items I have pack ratted away I figure I might as well use some. Rixot's looks very cool. Nice black bladed sword but kind of small. Gleamscythe is decent too.
