I have been trying for days to get my d2 to work, it says cannot connect to bnet and i thinks its a problem with my router im on cable by the way, can anyone help????? i get an error message that read: if you are using a modem you may want to connect to your service provider.
I'm on cable, just recently, with a router, and i have tried everything, please help!

IF it worked before with your router/cable, then it should be fine afterwards. However, many reasons could attribute to this "downtime". Have you been using any maphacks? hacks? fast muling?

NO I'M NOT BANNED, JUST KEEP GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE: IF YOU ARE USING A MODEM, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONNECT TO YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER.

There's no need to talk in all caps, it's most likely just a realm down. I had one for 84 hours before, so just wait it out. Check if you can sign on to another realm though, so we know what's happening.
I take it that this has just been going on for a short amount of time? This happens to me every now and then as well, but after a short time it generally goes away.
If it hasn't yet been a day since you've started to receive this message, then I would recommend waiting abit, and then let us know.

Sorry for caps! its been 3 days with same message, and it doesn't matter which realm they all give same error message.
I take it your not too eager to try a uninstall-reinstall? You should quickly reset the server list to make sure it's not corrupt or something (link :http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0633p)

Hey! thanks, i can log onto east realm now, but still getting error when i try to log onto west where all my chars are, any ideas? oh by the way i have reinsalled 5 times or more lol.
Hmm, unless the uswest realm still has an invalid entry, then I can't think of much else (besides this one actually being an time based).
Can you get onto Europe or Asia?

aspeak what error message do you get? I get if connected by modem you may want to connect to your internet service provider before you connect to b-net.
I'm on cable, with a router linksys, so my son can use his pc upstairs for school.

Try to connect to USWest manually, through telnet.
If your using Windows, then:
1. Click Start and then Run
2. Type telnet uswest.battle.net 6112. and press the Enter key.
3. A new screen will appear.
4. If your connection is successful, you will see a cursor in the top left corner of this screen. Type the letter C on your keyboard to connect to the Battle.net chat server.
5. If your connection is not successful, you will simply see an hourglass or the screen will automatically shut down indicating that you have not connected to Battle.net correctly.

Might be a temp ip ban from west. I've had the same crap happen to me a couple of times...no real work around other than waiting. :(
You can also try a tracert uswest.battle.net and post the results.
OT: awesome sig there Orphan :)

Its just an ip ban supposidly. All that is wrong is that your ip has been blocked from the uswest servers for a couple days.
EDIT: don't worry about it, you aren't perm banned...its just a temp thing wait a comple of days....your chars are fine :)

Hmmm, were you able to try a traceroute?
MoonUnit, I'm actually hoping it is just a temporary IP ban, but I've never heard it it lasting longer than 2 days. It just seems abit wierd though, and considering that it's been happening to alot of people, and always USWest.
Edit: For the record xxxoooxxx, here's how to do a traceroute
1. Click Start and then Run
2. Type command and press Enter
3. In the command window, type tracert USWest.battle.net > C:\tracert.txt and press the Enter key.
4. Type exit and press the Enter key to close the command window
There'll be a file in your c:\ now will the details of that traceroute.

just tryed that, and nothing happens when I type that in, do you have to type it a certain way, i put a space between tracert and uswest and also after battlenet.

Orphan, just went to my c: drive and below is what was in my tracerfile what does it mean? :
Tracing route to uswest.battle.net [63.241.83.7]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 * *
It sounds like you might have closed the prompt down before it actually done anything. Nothing will be outputted to the screen, as it should be sent to a text file in c:
The following is what you were meant to type at the prompt:
tracert USWest.battle.net > c:\tracert.txt
It'll look like the prompt will do nothing for abit, but don't close it down. If, after about 30 seconds, it still hasn't completed, press CTRL+C to force the command to end (that'll take about a second or so).

Orphan guess what? I just went to battlenet, and tryed west got right on, whatever you had me to do it worked, your awesome! thanks very much!
Good to hear
However, those two tests I asked you to do (the telnet, and traceroute) would not have fixed the problem. They are merely diagnostic methods. It appears that it was just a temporary IP ban.
Lets hope it doesn't happen again :)
yeah i tried getting online earlier just as a whim and it worked, it just seems to be a random 3 day ip ban. (GO BLIZZARD GO)

i am still not able to get on USEast  it has only been 36 hours or so since i got IP banned, so hopefully soon ill be able to get back on. It seems retarded that blizzard is handing out 3 day bans at the drop of a hat

I agree it seems a waste if you ask me, we payed good money for this game.

Hang in there chemist, i know its very frustrating when you want to play.
I agree it seems a waste if you ask me, we payed good money for this game.
What you payed for, was Diablo 2, not BNet. Battle.net is a free extra that we are able to enjoy. You haven't wasted any money yet mate :)
Also note, that the game is dirt cheap now-a-days, and your getting more than it's worth. If you purchased the game back when it first came out, then yes, you paid more, but you've also had 5 great years of gametime.
