I don't know if this is a bug or is something new in 1.11, but...

I just ran the socket formula on a normal Monarch, expecting 4 sockets like usual, but only coming out with 1. :( I know I had the formula correct cause I checked several times.

Is this a bug that anyone else has come across or is this is something new in 1.11? (randomized slot counts)

the cube recipe will give you a random number of sockets, so with a max of 4 possible, you have a 25% chance. you'd have been better off using the socket quest in this case where you always get the max number of sockets.

the cube is usefull when you need less than the max, but there's a chance you'll end up with junk.

the socket quest gives the amount of sockets depending on the monster level that dropped it, so most likely it will give atleast 3-4 sockets using the socket quest, that's why it's better to trade for a 4 os monarch or find your own to socket, can't trust a normal monarch if u trade hell alot for it.

I thought that if the max # of sockets was 4 then you had:
1/6 chance of 1 os
1/6 chance of 2 os
1/6 chance of 3 os
and 3/6 chance of 4os.

I could be wrong but I thought thats was I read somewhere.

If v1.11's data\global\excel\cubemain.txt is accurate to the behaviour on the realms (which it most likely is), then you are correct - ALL of the cube-socket formulas attempt to add 1-6 sockets to the item, even for armors (which max at 4), shields (which also max at 4), AND helms (which max at only 3).

Relevant data from cubemain.txt:

r07 + r10 + 1 perfect topaz + normal torso -> socketed torso 1 100 4 "tors,nor,nos" r07 r10 gpy useitem sock 1 6
r08 + r11 + 1 perfect amethyst + normal weapon -> socketed weapon 1 100 4 "weap,nor,nos" r08 r11 gpv useitem sock 1 6
r08 + r10 + 1 perfect sapphire + normal helm -> socketed helm 1 100 4 "helm,nor,nos" r08 r10 gpb useitem sock 1 6
r07 + r11 + 1 perfect ruby + normal shield -> socketed shield 1 100 4 "shld,nor,nos" r07 r11 gpr useitem sock 1 6

Which wasn't changed in 1.11.

It's kinda rare to see someone post snippets of the .txt files here.

I have never got more than 1 socket using socket quest in act 5 despite the item could have 3-4 as max, last time was a trollnest(can have 3 sockets) maybe it just was bad luck I dont know? I have try several times to made a 3 socket shield with ko-ko-mal :(

i understood that the larzuk socket quest always gave the maximum number of sockets possible too a white item, which depends on the lvl of the enemy which dropped it. when socketing elite items the lvl of the monster which dropped must be quite high, and it is not possible for such an item to get fewer sockets than the maximum that such an item can hold. The only exception to this is if the item which was dropped was a "cracked" or "damaged" item, in which case when the cube recipe used to remove such "defects" is used the lvl of the item is set to 1, and can then get fewer sockets.
