View Full Version : Question about smite + grief

I've read that the "adds dmg" mod from grief works with smite. Since I had a bloodletter gladius with a similar mod (adds 12-45 dmg) lying around I thought I'd test this out to see if it works.

Well when I equipped the bloodletter my smite damage remained exactly the same. What gives?

i guess this can be considered a *glitch* of some sorts...

any +damage mod adds the amount of damage to your smite, but WILL NOT show up in your damage box...

SO... if you do 1400 smite damage w/o your grief equip'd, that's what the damage box will say, and you will be doing 1400 smite damage... but if your grief (or bloodletter for that matter) is equiped, it will STILL ADD the +xx damage that it says but will not show up in your damage box.

just my .02

im making a smiter on new ladder and so im starting off poor. i just found a fleshrender with my MF character. would this be a good smiter option? i was under the impression that only +damage, and not +x-y damage, was added to smite invisibly.

so any of the unique weapons with +min-max damage add to smite? it seems that the game treats +damage and +min-max damage differently because the latter will show up on the listed weapon damage (when you highlight the weapon), whereas a greif berserker axe shows 24-71 damage.

what other mods from your weapon can transfer to smite?

deadly strike?
crushing blow?
prevent heal?
elemental damage?
slow target?
chance to cast?

i'm pretty sure all of those work with smite.

as well as the kind of +min-max found on many uniques? i just want to be sure.

does damage from charms work normally also? +damage and elemental?

Read the section on Smite in the Paladin FAQ, it's all there.

+x-y dmg does not add to Smite dmg.

Ok, so the damage is there but doesn't show up in my damage box, that makes sense.

Another question, is it just the straight damage added or is that damage enhanced by my fanatacism (and other) auras?

Elemental dmg and ds do not work with smite. Also bloodletter would not add dmg to smite because it adds +x-y and not +x like grief does. The dmg from grief does get enhanced by things like fanatism.

hi
sorry to ask this in your thread pallyman but maybe you would like to know aswell.
so how does that make it beter than astreons? +4 skills ~360 dmg +80 dmg
= more than 400 (grief) there must be some % dmg or something that enchants the +xxx dmg could anyone tell wich they are?
thanks in advance
cheers

zakarum shield does 46-46 damage

lvl 20 hs adds 57-60 damage...this gets added to your base shield damage

so the shield now has 103-106 damage.

the +4 combat skills from asterons adds 4 more levels of holy shield, thus 16 more damage is added to min max

so the shield now has 119-122 damage

asterons has +80 damage, this gets added to the base shield damage.

so the shield now has 199-202 damage

this is now the base damage you would use in equations for finding out your total damage (300% ed from smite, 300% enhanced damage from fortitude, 400% enhanced damage from phoenix)...this adds up to 1000% enhanced damage, and you would be doing ~2.15k smite damage

now for grief:
zakarum shield with level 20 hs = 103-106 damage

grief has +400 damage

shield now does 503-506 damage

this is now the base damage you would use in equations for finding out your total damage (300% ed from smite, 300% enhanced damage from fortitude, 400% enhanced damage from phoenix)...this adds up to 1000% enhanced damage, and you would be doing ~5.5k smite damage

Although jumbo_shrimp posted an excellent description I'll kind of sum things up for you. Basically all ed except that on weapons enchances the dmg from smite.

Dont forget Fana and Str in youre calculations.
I know the point is to proof grief is better but still.

Make it lvl40 Holyshield and you understand why grief smiter is so populair.
Insane damage that can only be blocked by a dual claw assa and hits 95%.

Why the 95%? Smite is auto-hit and ignores the normal block chance. Unless the defender has Dodge/Evade/Claw Block Smite will always hit.

Sometimes, smite vs. smite, My opponent hit me with smite, I heard *crank* sound, and saw block animationon my pally, and I took no damage at all.

weird.. sometimes.

typo..
