The Big Experiment. Everything Must Die!

Hello everybody, welcome to my world…

I have been thinking recently about trying a little experiment and I have finally got round to starting it. It has probably been done by plenty of players before in the course of playing the game, but I have never seen anyone spell out their findings yet.

My plan is to clear all areas of all Acts through Hell mode and log what items I find. I will complete the whole of each Act in one game to make the test a bit more credible.

Things I will log are :
Uniques found.
Rares found.
Sets found.
Charms found.
Jewels found.
Gold found.
Flawless gems found.
Experience gained.
Number of deaths.

I'll start by introducing the character I used and listing his gear/skills/stats etc.

Any comments on my idea are very welcome. I’ll be editing the thread as I go, and will probably post a final version once I have finished.

This is a great idea. I've thought of doing it after completely clearing the Durance 2, but even that took forever. Are you going to be popping all chests, too?

I did this back in Ladder 1 with some friends. 4 of us all had suped-up sorceresses and we cleared act 5 in just over 2 hours. Even all the small places like Abbadon. We had a great time. Unfortunately, it was one of those times where all we walked away with were a bunch of flawless gems. Better luck to you...

I will be doing the Cow level at some point too yes.

I'm popping all chests, kicking all baskets and searching all the poor dead rouges too.

ive tried in the past to do the same and always got bored...but i think yr findings are the same as mine were: lots of flawless gems and crappy uniques. a shako would probably have kept me doing it

There are a lot of unique and champion monsters in Act I, and he has a decent amount of MF too. So imho it's not that much at all...

No, it’s not players 8, it’s on realms and ladder. It was before there were extra Unique monsters about too…

remember people its not just the number of uniques/sets found, but the crapness of them too that matters. i'd consider myself more unlucky if a load blue/yellow high level items dropped alongside a load green/gold crap items.

omg knightfall, nice idea :). i did sort of this kinda runs sometimes also but well it was maybe 1/100 of what u do i just killed al creatures in cold plains and so... but every chest, every rogue, every everything.. my god do you hae a time estimation of act 1 alone? i got curious how many time u spend on that 1 alone :)

I think I'll clock Act 2 and see! Must have been around 3-5 hours maybe for Act 1 (estimate).

With all the minions and Enigma it really doesn't take that long. It's just a pain when you tele and go just past a chest and have to jog back for it...

super kudos to you for the patience. I always get too bored to do all of everything. best I can ever do is kill everything around me while completing a quest. Your making me dream of the days when I 1st started and killing everything in act 1 was sooo important to me. Mad Props to you man.

Hal: Just figure he's going through every single everything in Act I. That's ~25 levels (figure some areas have multi-levels, some are small), so I guess you could compare it to what you'd find with 400+ MF in 25 Pit runs.

Congrats on clearing act 1. I had thought of doing the same thing a few weeks ago, but I know its a lot more work than it seems to be.

I think it would be a lot of fun to do this with other players as well, perhaps organize an all nighter for a saturday with a few friends, or even people you don't know to clear an act.

If you are interested in the results, you might like to check out the Single Pass Untweaked Magic Find tourny in the SP forums, it's only just started so look in about a month or so when a few people might have finished.

Also there's at least one person there who always plays like this (full clears, no runs), so if you really want answers you could start a thread asking about it.

I forgot all about this thread. I've done this a couple times but not all in one game. Most i've cleared in one game was acts 1-3 and then i crashed from exhaustion. :xmas9:

Woah thats amazing imho,i cleared act 1 trying to find myself some gear, took me 3 hours and i wasted my time. :( Best unique : Balrog Spear, Best Set : Aldur's jagged star, Best rune : Io rune.

On behalf of summoner's everywhere i would like to say i am so sorry you had to endure the arcane sanctuary and the maggot lair with your summoner! :xmas9: Nice work though, i may undertake the task of act 3 in a day or so.
