View Full Version : where are all the s/s ww mf barbs?

I played d2 pr 1.10 and I had a great mf ww baba that soloed hell quite good. now with the nerfs as i got to 1.10 my baba was rendered almost useless so i quit playing for a while.. bad idea cuz when i, 6 months later, wanted to start playing again, all the equips were gone.. so i began from scratch. anyways, to get to the question:
can mf babas be built with dual sword ww or should i go for thw ik set instead.. i do love s/s babas so i was hoping someone had experience with them in 1.10. thnx in advance

All I can tell you is, that MF Barbs are no where near as effective today as they were in 1.09. My suggestions for a "good" MF'er would be either a Sorc or Hammerdin or Summoner Nec, but I'd stick with sorcs since they're the all time king (or queen) of Magic Finding, plus you'd need Enigma on Paly and Nec and you probably can't afford Jah + Ber if you just started.

Generally speaking, I think WW Barbs are expensive to make. I'd think Sorcs are the cheapest to make while having continuous good MF runs.

I have a mf s/s barb and he does more Pits and A5 Superuniqs rather than Baal while occasionally running travincaal/Memp. Back in .09 Memp was a joke and with eth in sword he goes down really fast. Now though melee chars can't fake it and AR, def counts and with Memp being almost impossible to leech mana from it is harder to run him with a barb and at times i switch to conc/zerk when my blue is not enuff for WWing :P Durance 2 being HUGE now doesn't help either :( A lwwp sword is a must IMO unlike in .09 where u see WW barbs with pink swords (Doombringer) hehe. Flux's .09 mf S/S barb guide target values of 1.5k dmg/2.5k AR would have to be something like 2.5k+dmg/4.5+k AR (with battlecry/demonlimb option) for a reasonably well equipped S/S barb to survive/mf hell now IMO. For the record he has mal as highest rune invested in him so far :

6/6 dual leech rare ring
10cb/stats crafted gloves
2*echoing on switch
Oath in ethereal Balrog Blade (334ed)-->traded mal for items

Prior to tal armor he was using skullders :P I may upgrade his sword to a Grief Zweihander depending on future projects estimated budget hehe. But he's a cool char and horks high lvl monsters/areas nicely after killing them. My main item runner is a bone/summon necro with all the nice trimmings :D

Generally sorc is absolute mf queen.

Nevertheless I am building a mf barb just now (he need 1.75 lvl to ready :D)

A sorc is best boss killer since she reach bosses fastest. Barb can be a good mass killer - more effective in running some of 85 areas - as Pit or some other interesting areas - as Flyer jungle.

My barb uses ww and polearms. His final weapon will be Tomb Reaver. I got one with bad ed but 3 sockets, 40% res all, and 75% mf makes it good enough for me.
Armour - eth Skullder's Ire/p topaz, wt, Tal belt, chances.

I donīt use Shako - just Arreat's Face/15% res all ***

Rings: rare ring dual leach, +20 str, res, mf, Raven Frost
amu: Maras

Ghedīs + some mf scs

i recently started playing on ladder a month ago and i have a level 89 magic find hamemrdin with about 360% MF, which has been plenty for baal, meph, eldritch and pits. with my gear on i do 5-6 k hammer damage with decent cast speed. id recommend a hammerdin as a scout MF character to fetch gear for your real characters.

Some of the best drops I have ever gotten have come from monsters before I even reached Diablo or Meph. It is becuase of this reason I spit on Enigma and do things the slow, fun way.

I tend to agree on this. Killing thousands of critters prior to the one boss vastly improves your chance to find goodies, particularly charms. I found a 5 res all sc and 14res all GC in cold plains, where i usually go hunting for minor bosses (same with stony, marsh and tamoe prior to hitting the pit).

And I wouldn't mf with a barb unless he was doing 5K 1handed damage, but really, the IK barbs prove a sheild isnt necessary for good pvm play. A fun pike barb, polearm barb, etc are lots of fun to play, dish out huge damage, and eventualy you can move up to a ebotd GP or warpike. Or go with a big sword two handed, then switch to dual ali babas for the slivered kill. It'll allow you to wear better fighting gear instead of goldwrap, mf ammys, etc. Baba's+ptopaz shako+MAYBE skullders or wealth or enigma, maybe chancies and you're good.

Where did they go? You can thank new hell monsters with obscenly ramped up damage and defenses for that extinction. Most barbs that use a weapon with the rest of their gear having magic find will have a much tougher time than the joke that was 1.09.

Omikron, why have I feeling that you still mourn "old, good times of 1.09"?

My 12k-hammerdin collects dust and my 3k ww ROCKS!... and finds... :thumbsup:
