can someone tell me how to assign certain skills to certain keys

i went to the configure controls menu, and see you can assign specific skills to keys, but i don't know how, all it displayed was like F1-F8, but i don't know how to choose the skill i want to assign to it.

in a game you click on the skill button for either the left or right mouse button; then just simply put the mouse cursor over the skill you want to designate and press the f-button you want it to be under; I always put town portal as f1 :)

Darnoc is absolutely correct. The configure controls menu you went to is the place you could change your skill hotkeys from being set at F1-F8 to being 'd', 'q', 'r', etc... You'd then have to follow Darnoc's procedure (substituting whichever letter for whichever f-button) to map the skill hotkey to a specific skill.

The configure controls sets up your general controls for all your characters.
The procedure Darnoc described maps skills to keys for each specific character.

Not entirely correct, Thegiantturtle.

Configuring new hotkeys to skills will configure them for that character, but old characters which already use the F keys will still have the hotkeys they had before you eventually start messing around reassigning keys.

New characters made will use whatever key assignment you put as "default".

Edit: I may have misunderstood Thegiantturtle's post. Those menues of course do the same thing for every character. hehe...
