2 tree sorc with newb equipment for MF

made a firebaal/meteor mf sorc. was pure fire so all it could do was mefesto, pindle, and andy. everything else was off limits. didnt have a good merc. I want to try chain lightning and orb. does this work good or would firebaal/orb be better? can chain lightning kill mefesto decently? i used stuff like occulus, elidless wall, skulders, shako.... total of +7 to all skills and 418 mf. thats what my fire sorc has...

Meteor/Orb is a good and oft-used combination, dealing great damage with great versatility. I personally haven't tried it, but the damage the Meteor and Fireball does is enough, and having Frozen Orb is a good choice because its a good spell that doesn't require synergy to be powerful.

ya but what about chainlightning and orb? can chainlightning be good without having all its synergies and lots of +skill

basically it's like this:

28 points in cold tree (orb, pre-reqs, 1-5 in cold mastery)
60-80 in another attack, usually:
20 mastery
20 spell
20-40 synergies.

basically, for those non-cold spells, the most effective are:
meteor
lightning
fireball
charged bolt
chain lightning
in that order.

for bosses though lightning/cl suck.
