cause eth means it gets 50% enhanced damage, then they make a runeword that either makes it indestructible or give it to their merc

you cant make runewords in magic items...

for the ar. a lot of chars don't need high damage weps (namly wolf/bear druids) so they prefer high speed/ar weps. also, some chars get a lot of damage off-wep, e.g. auradins.

If they're looking for AR and not damage, why eth? ALso, auradins benefit the most from a high damage weapon (The high damage gets multiplied by all the offweapon ed).

i was talking about hf, hs, hf, which iirc only add to the attack, not multiply anything.

Yea thats true but still why the fools with ethereal? why is it that you want ethereal on anything that is going to be used but can not be kept for breaking?

Yea its definitely not for runewords and its probably not for IAS so I am not sure why they are looking for it, in fact I am not sure they are looking for it. sorry it doesn't make sense to me either.

Maybe its like looking for +3 claw mastery on a suwayyah they just want it for the keepsakeness.

Simple, they want AR.
A weapon with fools at high level get an ungodly amount of AR.
An eth fools crystal sword with IAS goes for multiple HRs, if it even has high ED, you won't be out of HRs for the rest of your D2 life.

rare eth fool mod'd weapons have more style than oh say botd or grief, weapons that everyone and their brother have.

If they are asking for a ethereal 4 socket (jewelers prefix) fool's rare crystal sword/dimensional sword than the answer is clear they want the AR and the rare can be upgraded to a phase blade for obvious reasons.

but why would they want a rare like that if it were in something that would break?

I know Zods are rampid but, I still don't think you should use them for such a weapon.

The AR gets really high especially if your using some skill to boost it further.

The original poster did not mention other mods, so I assumed they only meant the eth and fools, which would be a magic weapon.

High ED eth weapons with the Fools Mod on top are hella good. They'd have comparable damage to high end runewords, a ton of AR to try to make up for missing other mods, and the style of using a rare weapon.

Fool's grants maximum damage and attack rating per level, and not that much of either. Ethereal versions of these only give 50% enhanced damage and prevent the item from being repaired. I fail to understand how this is good, makes a weapon comparable to an ethereal Breath of the Dying, or is better than a Fool's Weapon of Self-Repair, or how such a weapon is even desirable over a rare with the same affixes.

that was my point. If the guy was talking about a rare with other good mods, it would make sense. Otherwise, it's just a waste.

after more thought, the only thing i can think of is that etheral would make it non-shop-bottable.

but, even back in .09, fools was valuable. is the original poster sure that etheral fools weapons are the valuable ones? before, fools cryptic swords and mythical swords of quickness were worth around 2-3X as much as the cruel versions.
