Hey, ATM I enjoy fb vs. fb, msot of us use energy shield builds with 15/70's (dont complain im just being honest)
atm i have like 3k life and 3k mana, 20 tk and 65% es.

What I need to know is, how much life/es/mdr do I need to prevent myself from going into fhr (1/12 dmg i think) until E shield breaks.

Lets assume they do 18k fb, with 3,000 life, 65% es, and 20 mdr, what would be the best way to prevent myself from being sent into fhr by their fb.

Would increasing mdr to 50 be good?
upping e-shield?
or just try and pump my life.

Please include numbers if you can

Am I misinterpreting mdr? Magic Damage Reduce? I wasn't aware that it worked with eshield taking elemental damage, I always assumed it only worked on actual Magical damage.

imho the only thing that works on that would be fhr.

yes, mdr works on elemental.

If I interprete it right calculations looks like this.
Assuming you have 75% Fire res.

25% * 35% * 18 000 * 25% - 20 = 393,75 dmg

hmmm.... Pumpng life - You would need 4726 life not to go into hit recovery...
Increasing mdr still means that You recive :

25% * 35% * 18 000 * 25% - 50 = 363,75 dmg

So You would need 4365 life...

Pumping ES on the other hand to let's say 70% would mean:

25% * 30% * 18 000 * 25% - 20 = 317,5 dmg
Then You would only need 3811 life...

With ES 75%:

25% * 25% * 18 000 * 25% - 20 = 261,25 dmg
Life needed : 3136

ES 80% without any MDR:

25% * 20% * 18 000 * 25%= 225 dmg
Life needed : 2701

OK. Thats how Your proposed solutions should work, and now here is mine.

Try having 85% res.:

25% * 35% * 18 000 * 15% - 20 = 216,25 dmg

Life needed: 2596
You can switch your boots to infernostrides for that +10% max fire resis.
Should'nt hurt Your most needed stats too much...

Hope this helps,
Cheers

P.S. If I made any miscalculations feel free to correct me everyone...
P.P.S. If for some reason You couldn't figure it out I used the following formula:
25% * (100% - ES absorb) * listed damage * (100% - fire resists) - mdr = actual damage

mdr is before resists and + max res is BM in sorc vs. sorc, e shield sorcs shouldent wear sorb anyways

Whoa! Whoa! Stop the presses! Magic Damage Reduction works on elemental damage??? How? Although that would explain why those Magic Immune Unravelers take less damage from my sorc.

MDR reduces elemental dmg too, but Magic Immune simply means that that monster does not take magic dmg, which is Berserk/Bone spells/etc, but not elemental dmg. Greater mummies are rather resistant to elemental dmg.

As for the original question:
(18000 * .17 * (1 - .65) - 20)* .25 = 262.75 fire dmg.
You'd need at least ~3154 life to not go into hit recovery when a FB hits.

50 mdr:
(18000 * .17 * (1 - .65) - 50)* .25 = 255.25 fire dmg. ~3064 life needed.

70% es:
(18000 * .17 * (1 - .7) - 20)* .25 = 224.5 fire dmg. ~2695 life needed.

75% es:
(18000 * .17 * (1 - .75) - 20)* .25 = 186.25 fire dmg. ~2236 life needed

80% es:
(18000 * .17 * (1 - .8) - 20)* .25 = 148 fire dmg. ~1777 life needed.

I didn't take rounding into account, so you problably need a bit less life than listed to avoid hit recovery.

check out the ES sorc guides in the sc or sorc forums for details, and it works great. magic absorb on spirit items also works on all elemental.

Actually no. Magic absorb is just for absorbing real magic dmg.

I already read the ES guides, or at least two of them, and I don't remember anything about MDR affecting elemental damage? I'll read them again, then I'll come pepper RTB with questions.
