View Full Version : I'm new to this stuff and I need help!
Right only recently have i started playing Diablo 2 LOD and I must say it is absolutely brilliant! I managed to stumble upon this forum and I need some help with regards to trading.
1) On this forum I notice 2 main terms, ISO and FT. What do these terms stand for??
2) Secondly how exactly are trades made here? I have the program ATMA and assuming I want to trade a ring with someone for example, I give the ring to a specially created trade character. I guessing this is what most of you refer to as the mule? Then I send this via e-mail to the person who wants the ring. Then he sends it back with the item I want. But what if I get scammed? How do I avoid this? So can someone tell me the proceedure step by step please?
3) I noticed some items are traded for Pgems? I'm guessing these are perfect gems?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

1. ISO - in search of...
FT - for trade
2. Correct idea of the procedure there.
If you get scammed, you can't recover - short of duping. However, you probably will get the pleasure of watching the mods banz0r someone.
Of course, there's not all that many scams going on here. Most of the people are trustworthy.
3. Yep.

Thanx for the reply. So my trading proceedure is correct? So i guess this process is based solely on trust? No safeguards?

Yep, it is all based on trust.
That would explain the witchhunts that you will witness from time to time. :D
If you haven't done so, kindly swing by the SPF and introduce yourself, so we can get to know you a little better.
Back to the topic at hand, what sort of items are you looking for?

Hmm, will I look mean if I tell you the answers to all your questions where located in the FAQS ?
Hey Dave, Thanx for the reply. Hopefully I won't be involved in any witchhunts myself :D As for items, well I just started out as a necro and so am at a pretty low level. So I guess nothing in particular. Also I have a LOT to learn about items and such before I go about requesting anything in particular. Thank you for asking anyway. I just wanted to know about the trading proceedure actually.
Anyway with regards to another thing I notice when you guys post items for trading there always is a report with a fingerprint of an address. I know this is generated from the ATMA program. However can I copy and paster such a report straight from ATMA or do I need do use the software Flavie?

No need for flavie. Atma menu -> utility -> dump full info
(also mentionned in the faqs :D )
Oh sorry Sleepless I didn't realise the answers were in the FAQs. My bad. I guess I better take a look before I ask anything else.

Re Scams: Yes, it is a trust thing, but I think the odds of getting scammed here are pretty long. The usual process for transferring mules involves keeping a copy of the file until you get confirmation the expected item was received - then you delete the mule.
Fortunately it hasn't happened to me, but if someone were to not send the items promised I wouldn't have any qualms restoring the item I 'traded.' Of course, I'd wait for that person to get banned, so as far as the SP community is concerned, it's not really duping items - atleast IMO. Others possibly feel different.
One thing to keep in mind though if you are trading is that this is a global community, and some people don't check in all that often. If you trade with someone, give them a few days (3-5?) to reciprocate.
Good words about keeping the item till confirmation got, Sirpoopsalot. Some members here do not do that. And sometimes emails or their attachments can just get lost in the web. As the result items just disappear during the trade and nobody can restore them. I had such situation. Maybe it's a good idea to add the notice to the rules to eliminate even possibility of such situations...

That's probably a good idea, just take a little time to browse the sp trade forum everyday to get a feel for what people want and how valueable certain items are.
But don't worry though, even if you inadvertently make a horribly lopsided offer (in your favor or the other person's) most of us will be quick to mention it to ensure nobody gets ripped off.

Yeah that would be great. But knowing myself it'll probably be lopsided in my favour!! :D
