A gambling question

If my character is level 86, should I be able to gamble elite items yet? I've been trying on sashes and caps and other lower level armor, but I'm just getting demonhide sashes and war hats, etc.

where are you gambling, normal? I'm not too experienced with gambling, but the more elite items are really only available in hell, hence the higher costs.

Where you gamble makes no difference. It's all based on your characters' level. Equip an Edge runeword bow (if you're on ladder) to decrease gambling costs.
I'd say you should be high enough to gamble elites (though I'm not certain). You will still get a LOT of normals and a few exceptionals though.

That's what I thought. Hm, I suspect then that it is due to my meddling with the patch file (I only play single-player). I've literally gambled hundreds of sashes while in the 80s. No spiderweb sashes yet. I'm just trying to confirm that it is due to something I did rather than the way the game is supposed to run.
