Just found a stormspire. Sucky weapon in my opinion. I'd rather that Pindle would have dropped a GF or sumthin.
So my question is... is this a wasted drop or has anybody ever done anything remotely interesting with it?

Well, you can start a Grail. Like many do over at the SPF.

The (only) cool thing about Stormspire is that it's one of the rarest drops in the game. Like top 5, I think. To bad it sucks, eh? :uhhuh:

Completeing a Grail, or: more to the point, The Grail, would be collecting one of each unique in the game. The Stormspire has foiled many a Grail attempt, so having gotten one of the biggest obstacles out of the way, you could start a Grail quest. Now you just need a Tyrael's Might and you're actually almost ;) done...

BTW, all my drop klnowledge is heresay. It's just what I've picked up reading around, if one of the statisticians cares to jump in here and make me look all pear-shaped, feel free.

Stormspire is indeed one one of the most rare weapons in the game. However, the rarity of an item is a matter of definition. Some monsters are good at dropping certain items while they are bad with respect to others and vice versa. For example, normal Bishibosh is quite good at dropping Gull because he has such a limited selection of items to drop and he has no chance at all to drop Stormspire while hell Lister's chance to drop Stormspire is clearly greater than to drop Gull.

Thanks Guys - the grail does seem to be an interesting quest. But until I get all the remaining items, this sucky weapon will continue to hog 8 slots of my precious stash space :( Also all the sets/uniques in the game will be an awful lot of mules!
Maybe I'll put it on one of my characters' act 2 mercs to save space eh? Or maybe trade it with somebody on a grail quest for some decent runes...
But I'll remain annoyed with Pindle for not dropping some other Weapon or Armour 87 as unique!

I remember when a mercenary wearing a giant thresher was impossible, but I suppose with all the boosts out there. Either way, if you're serious about trading it, let me know. I don't have a price but I'm sure the Trade Values forum can rectify that. Which realm, by the way?

Asia (Server 1, I think). Just out of curiosity, what would you use it for?
What realm are you on?
At the moment, I could equip my merc with the giant thresher... but his damage dropped significantly from the tomb reaver he's wearing.

Stormspire was the rarest unique in the game, but that changed in 1.10.
In 1.09 it had a qlvl of 91, meaning no normal monster could possibly drop it.

That changed, however, and now many many uniques are more rare due to who can/can't drop them and there being more than one unique for many base item types.

And yes, compared to other as rare weapons, it blows.

Edit: In 1.07 it was an Archon Staff, not a Giant Tresher, so that made it EVEN more rare...

Qlvl 78 in all expansion versions, but it was impossible to get a Stormspire in 1.07, because Archon Staves couldn't drop. There was someone named Xtravins in the SPF a long time ago who actually managed to find a 1.08 Stormspire. Qlvl 91 was for the Cranium Basher in 1.07-1.09.

The post before RTB explains it: it WAS an Archon Staff, until the type was changed.

In 1.07, it WAS an archon staff..like how in 1.08, Stormshield was of type Aegis.

Copy'n'paste error there, the Giant Thresher had Qlvl 89 in 1.08/1.09.

Hmm... the info of it being qlvl 91 came from this site... although that's quite some time ago. I read it in the TC guide, back in the 1.09 days.

I recently found one off Pindle, Hell. It may not be as rare as it used to but it was rare enough for me. Don't have the ATMA printout for it but Giant Threshers don't drop much for me.
