i did that once with 3 friends - it was a nice change and all but i wouldn't be able to do that for every new char i made. -.-

When questing, I play through nearly all of the game solo. There are a few exceptions where I need help from other players (for the very first character in a new ladder season - always a fire/cold sorc so far) or from myself on computer 2 (for any character after that). Exceptions are Duriel, Ancients, OKs or, in case of my LF cow javazon, 3/4 of hell.
There are a few characters who truly soloed through everything, although with twinked gear: My hammerdin and my bowazon, for example.

Yes I usually play the game the slow way. Since I don't make that many characters, I kind of enjoy the slow pace. That's even more true when I play a totally new character build, so playing slower on lower levels allows me more practice with skills and mistakes are more easily forgiven.
I see a lot of level 80+ who haven't got a clue how to play their chars...

That's pretty much how I always play the game. I tried following the lvling guides and getting up high without playing it through and found it to be boring.
Of course, if I find myself up a ways and my level isn't high enough to proceed, I will stop and go do runs somewhere until I level some more and maybe find some loot to boot. But I still think that counts as what you were talking about. I do all the quests and get all the waypoints and just have a blast with it.
i just started my 4th player account, and i think i end up doing it for at least once character per account. it revitalizes my intrest in the game to get back to what it was meant to be. i even turn on the music, and listen to all the sounds they made for the game.

90 % of the time I solo even if it is a long way to Hell Baal.
Why ?
- I was rushed sometimes and when playing solo my character was unable to survive because it did not reach the right lvl.
- It always goes very fast for my age (39) and my lack of skills in chat language is tremendous. I know what is "tp", "wp" but the rest is ......So no time to go to town for a red and blue pot and surely I am always late to catch the good drops, I repeat, I never catch the good drops, even If I make the last hit, which is frustrating. LOL ! but frustrating.
- My merc is always left behind , and I had to replay several hours just letting him doing expe run to catch up, even following lvl guides.
- How can I mule in confidence my bonehew, or homonc, I know it is also risky in solo to get disconnected. Generally I play untwinked. No enigma, no Botd, Coh, ....
- I'm ennoyed with this duelling runners or PK.
- I only have time to play the friday night, so only 7 hours per week to raise my pal 85, necro 83, trapsin 79, barbs 35,28, sorc 15, kicksin 42, fishmancer 35.;elementaldru 19
10% I like playing with others: Sometimes good trades, sometimes bad trades
sometimes very friendly players, thanks to them.

these days when I'm not in a hurry I password my game. this way I dont have #1 people who join, then all of the sudden start saying lets rush to act5 and take control of the game #2 higher lvls who come in and kill bosses I'll need for the quest

Nice to see that I'm not the oldest one here :)
im turning 32 in a few days
But I'm still much older than you
I like to play alone and to do things the slow way, just like you. The main reason why I'm on bnet instead of playing alone is trading. I could play on single player, of course, but I guess I would lack the time and the patience to find my own HRs etc. It's no problem to get them with an item editor, of course, but IMO that's a worse kind of cheating yourself than trading items which are most probably duped.

I don't remember when I last time leveled my char from act1 normal to act5 hell all by myself.
Must've been some single player times 2 years ago.
If you play the game "as it was meant to be played", you'd most likely have to do it alone and that's not cool.
It also takes quite a lot of time and the game isn't that interesting to me anymore to actually spend time leveling like that.
I level on diablo/baal games these days or on some other areas as long as there are 8 players.

i ve played trough the game for almost 3 years, but in th elast 2 years i can t be bothered any more to do it :) so hip hip hurray for rushes
my point is, that ive let my friends list get *very* short, as i cant seem to find people who value the work and time it takes to build up characters and wealth. they dont just happen over night. ive met many people lately, who start out seeming ok, but then end up just begging for everything they thing they need from me. these people, are generally always under the age of 18, and have no sense of what it takes to work for a living and make your own way in the real world.

I've almost never rushed. When I first started battle-netting I accidentally got rushed by chasing the rushing parties through the acts, and once I rushed through Hell up to ancients just because I was having fun playing with the players in the game. But normally, I play the whole game through with every character (I've only built 4 chars past lvl 50 since 1.10) because I don't see the point in only running certain high exp areas, I like the diversity they built into the story and locales. Besides, SOJs and killer gear can drop anywhere beyond their first drop area, there's not much difference between highly unlikely and very higher unlikely in my book. They both take tremendous luck to drop your way.
But then, at 43, I'm probably just old and old fashioned. I'm old enough to actually remember playing my family's Sears brand Pong game for about 6 months after the xmas it arrived under the tree. ...Then the atari 2600 came out.
Can anyone else top my age, or do I get to claim the age crown on this forum?
What are you guys talking about??
Are you trying to tell me there are more areas in the game besides tristram, andy, pindle, the pit, eldritch, meph, diablo, and baal?

i've never been rushed. i've played through around 50 chars solo, another 20 up to hell hellforge, roughly 20 barbs, 3 necros, 3 amazons, 2 paladins and the rest sorcs. around 3 chars i had help through hell ancients, all single tree sorcs. a couple of chars i played with other people while questing just to see how it went. it went. i've abandoned 1-2 chars before hellforge out of boredom because i was trying unusual builds. the most boring char of them all: hammerdin. i want to puke everytime i see a pillar or doorway to this day. in the last ladder, superhal 4 and 5 were all sorcs i solod myself through hellforge. in this ladder, i made 9 sorcs so far. at least 20 chars were base vit, another 10 were pure str. this ladder i made 3 pure nrg builds so far, my first actually. my best times: 30 minutes through normal, 15 through nm, 30 through hell.
dear blizzard: please remove a level from act 1 jail and catacombs please. 7 levels of stupid mazes back to back is too much, and you have to do them 3 times each if you quest yourself. this is the de-facto reason why i don't make chars without tp anymore.

Impressive, being so fast on normal , NM and Hell.
But in average, how much time do u spend per week to have built 50 char. ?
Superhal
08-07-2005, 10:42
i had 5 accounts in .09, 5 in .10 first season ladder, and i'm 3 chars into my third on this ladder. i'd say i've been playing just under 2 years, with a break in the middle of a year and a half for jobs/school/etc.
it's not like i enjoy them after the quests are done. usually within minutes of finishing baal i'm stripping them down. rarely do i play them past lvl 77. 88 is as patient as i can be nowadays with baalruns, but even with cows i never could get past 92. my very first char, an mf barb, never got past 84.
usually i'll make just 1 char of a particular build type. but with hellforge, i've been having a lot of fun playing unusual builds.

ive played with +/- 10 chars non rush (5 were single player  )
the other 5 were at the start at battle net, so I did just the same, then a few friends said they could "rush" me.First I thought, that cant be, but after I realised how it worked and I liked it very much :p

I'm 16, and i got an atari when i was about 8. We got it for about 5 bucks at a garage sale with about 8 games. By then they already had the playstation, but i thought atari was just the coolest thing. A few years later i got a Nentendo (the oooold one) Duck hunt, the mario games, and Burgertime. Great games. So i got respect for the old-skool systems. Never tried pong tho.

As I recall, our pong console had two games, "handball" for one player, and "tennis" for two players.
I had to use lawnmowing money to get the atari, then I sold it for an Intellivision, then sold that for a Nintendo, and sold that for an Amiga500. I still have the Amiga (it's been upgraded to a blazing 30 mhz processor, 12 mb of ram, and a whopping 280 mb hardrive.) I only use it for specific midi tasks now. It still does them better than my pc. But sometimes I also nostalgically pull out an old amiga game on floppy, like Earl Weaver Baseball, and fire it up.

I play right through, because why would I do otherwise?
It's pretty much the only way I can get my characters to high levels. I tried getting rushed through once, and I found my character didn't gain much experience doing it that way. I got a necro to Slayer this way (though he was just a prototype; I deleted him knowing I could do better with the skill tree). I also prefer to play solo; this way I avoid people looking for a fight (I'm not really into PvP; I feel it's a waste of my time).
I haven't played much online lately because the cafe I was playing from went out of business, and I hadn't found a new place to play since. So I just play solo on my computer.

i always wanted a coleco vision with it's super cool 20 pound cpu/tape drive.
the amiga is a classic, i never got one though. at the time, i had a choice between a pcjr and an apple IIe. should have went with the 2e. :(
another system i always drooled over at product shows was the odessey with it's blazing fast cartridge system.
all my friends had the c64 with the auto-misaligned drive heads and 30 minute load times.
you want nostalgia? here: www.the-underdogs.org. best. site. ever.
[edit] on that pcjr, i burned out two motherboards in under a month playing zork. i guess that should have told me something. i go through around 3-6 mice a year, and 2-3 keyboards. i buy them in bulk already.

Depends on when you will turn 44. :D
I once got rushed just b/c I liked one of the people playing -- when it was only the 2 of us remaining, I died repeatedly amid a pack of skellie archers. Never got around to improving that character & finding that player again, alas. Now the only mp I play is with a friend (in real life) and we are not doing full clears but doing all quests, untwinked. I like playing as a team, but I mostly do SP -- mix of weird variants and not-very-high-level standard chars.
Happens like once every ladder season or so ;)
But Ive played through the whole game once in single player...
ya knw now that im in hell i think i can take it with my Hammerdin, and will try to go thru without a rush... Act3 blows...

I have made dozens of character, most of them paladin and I always go through the game without being rushed. I had maybe 4 or 5 rushed but that's still a very low % compare to the number of character I have made. I quested the game a lot of times solo but I also did it quite a few times with a friend of mine who liked the game as much as I.
In fact what I miss most are the old days when the game was new and no one knew what he/she was doing. No one had godly gear and teaming up to beat each act was very necessairy in order to survive. Those are the days

No, I'm a mere toddler at 39. I get rushed so I can get some decent skills (sorcs are just pathetic till at least level 24 or 30.) I have solo'ed the whole game, and even after I've matriarched a sorc I'll take her back to do all quests. But - honestly what's new in Sanctuary anymore? The novelty is finding good drops, not killing duriel for the 300th time. (I think my merc could solo now, while I sit around and watch...)
The Most Fun I have now (really) is helping new players through the game in Hell. Not rushing, but helping. Decent XP for that as well.
I have played chars with no rushes. My very first was a fire sorc during the start of this ladder. Normal and nightmare was a breeze but hell was well... hell. It was difficult for me to find decent playing parties in hell. But I did survive and eventually beat Baal with a full party. Boy, it was FUN.

all it is level first then quest. level to 18 first with a sorc, tp through. i was messing around last night, did nm a1 in 5 minutes with a lvl 30 sorc. the time i did it in 15, i happened to have the horadric staff and an extra khalim's flail. that guy who did it in 2 hours scouted all the areas first. if i level, twink and scout beforehand...meh.
level to 18 first with a sorc, tp through
Yeah, sorc at level 18 + tons of mana potions = practically self-rush (except for killing a few bosses here and there). And just playing through Act 1 will get you close to level 18 pretty fast, although Trist runs can help a lot, too. Especially if you tweak.

For pure interest , I watched the videos done on the "2 hours to kill Baal "from scratch.
I must say this is really impressive. The guy did not even dare to replace armor (from lvl 4) or repair it until fighting Baal.
With BoS, the assassin run fast.
Lots of red and blue pots, which required from him certain keyboard and mouse skills.
Frankly, I don't see how it is feasible from lvl 1 till 21 in front of baal to go faster (4 times less) . Of course all maps were unchanged and known by the player. EVen though, 30 min for normal seems not feasible. What time do u need to level your 18 sorc??
But i'm ready to watch video proof ...
