View Full Version : weapon speed question
I am really confused how weapon speed works.
For instance I was trying to find out the speed difference between a ballista and a gothic bow. A gothic bow has a listed speed of fast, and a ballista has a listed speed of very slow.
but in websites such as the Arreat Summit they also speeds listed in a different format. like this... [-10] [0] [10]
The thing that confused me greatly is that the ballista and gothic bow both had a speed of [10]!!!!
plz explain someone.

search google for weapon speed calculater. A ballista can reach a maximum of 11 fps (w/ lots of ias) whereas a gothic can reach 9 fps with 56 ias. :)

Ballista is an exceptional crossbow, gothic is bow, they are in a different subclass of items. Certainly u have noticed that a ballista fires more slowly than a gothic.
..[10]......[10].......[0].....[-10]........[-10?]
ballista < gothic < rune < double < witherstring --- speedwise
Now a CKN is [-60] in the Arreat Summit, but it is not likely faster than a Witherstring - which incidentally some testers a few years ago informed Blizzard that it was not up to speed with its listed base speed. It was listed like at [-30 or 50]! as I remember, so this is very annoying, and maybe some change to keep it from being uber in some way (with all the charms and shael runes and ias stuff in LoD).
Using a clock and going out into the field, u can see for urself which ones are faster.
Back before 1.08 or 1.09, a frenzy barb had like 19 seconds worth of frenzy after a few hits got him up to max ias speed. Switching to a ckn or witherstring was really a super fun thing to do. I think this was just before the sigons and deaths ias combo's came into being. But it was still super fast, esp with a fan pally nearby, and of course u would use goldwrap and twitch. Some people said it looked like the barb was "firing a machine gun", and I wont argue with that. :flip:
