Gack, help me! I'm trying to install Diablo II on Windows 2000, but every timei try to install it i get this message:

d2sfx.mpq
Error 0x000000017: data error (cyclic redundancy check)
(SafeSF.cpp:67)

Whats going on?!

Your installation medium seems to be broken. "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" means a file has the wrong checksum, i.e. the data in the file got corrupted. So either you have a not-quite-uninstalled version with a corrupted file on the harddisk that for whatever reason won't get overwritten (seems unlikely to me), or the file on the CD is corrupt. Which means, you need a new CD. Before you buy a new one you can try to install D2 with a CD from a friend (using your own CD-key) and hope your CD works for playing.

If you determine the problem is your disk, and you bought the game within the last 10 calendar days (I think it's 10 at least), blizzard will replace the game for free (granted you have a receipt proving when you bought the game). Look on their website for more info.
