make sure you're using a tome of town portal (the book) and not a scroll. also, you can only make a cow game in the difficulty you beat. and if you were in a game at any time where someone killed the king, you won't be able to make a cow game with that character on that difficulty level.

If you mean "Tome", it doesn't have to be full.
Any number of scrolls inside will do.

he might be referring to the myth that a full tome gives you more cows. it isn't true.

if anyone partied with the cow lvl creator kills the cow king, the cow lvl creator can no longer create the cow lvl in that diffculty anymore.

Hmm, but this should only happen if the person who kills the king hasn't done so in the past for that difficulty? If I remember correctly, it's treated like any act boss quest, in that all people in the party shall get that "quest" complete only if someone is present at the king when he dies who needs the "quest" complete.

I'm sure someone will correct me..?

The way I understood it was:

You can't "kill the king" for quest credit if you haven't killed Baal yet on that difficulty. (you can't open a portal to cows until you kill baal, so you have to use a portal that somebody else opened, but then you can freely kill that king)

You can't "kill the king" for quest credit if you already have credit for the quest (you can't open cow portals anymore either, so you have to use a portal that somebody else opened, but then you can freely kill that king)

If you can't get credit for the king kill and you kill the king, nobody in your party (or the game) will get the cow quest credit.

If you can get the quest credit (if you can open a cow portal, you can get kill credit) and you kill the king, you and everyone who is eligible to get the quest who is in your party will get the quest and lose portal opening priveleges.

If you are not eligible for the quest (you haven't killed Baal yet in that difficulty), you can't get slapped with the quest credit for the kill even if the king's killer (in your party) does get the credit for killing the king.

if anyone partied with the cow lvl creator kills the cow king, the cow lvl creator can no longer create the cow lvl in that diffculty anymore.

The game creator doesn't matter at all, and neither does the party.

It's the "first kill" rule: if you land the killing blow, and you haven't killed the king before (or gotten credit for it; it's the same thing) then EVERYONE in the cow level, partied or not, will get credit for killing the king.

If you already had killed the king, then it doesn't matter how many uncredited players are around when you kill the king --- they will NOT ger credit.

What this means is that you come in with a char who has killed the king before (that's the case for all my playchars), you can freely kill the king as much as you want --- as long as YOU get the killing blow (which is very likely if you are cowrunning lowlevels with your high level char), nothing will happen.

I can't open cow level on NM with my barb, he just says "I can't use this yet" when I put the leg and the tome of TP's in the cube and press transmute. I don't think I've killed cows with this char before...

Is there any rule on you have to kill cow king on normal to be able to open cow lvl on NM difficulty?

Is there any suggestions on what I need to do to open cow lvl on NM?

Holy thread necromancy....

Anyways...
1. Have you defeated Baal on NM difficulty yet?
2. Are transmuting in Act 1?
3. Have you ever been partied with someone that killed the Cow King for the first time in that difficulty?

The Cow King (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=341175)

all the right info can be found there without all the madeup stuff that some people seem to think is right.

And, if you want to know if someone killed the king for the first time, look where he died. If it's for the quest (the first time), he drops a bunch of stamina potions (i.e., milk bottles). There aren't a lot of Easter Eggs in D2, but there are a few, and this one is actually useful.

I've always wondered why you can only kill the king once before you lose the ability to create the portal. Some people have fun ruining the party by killing the king... so annoying.

Some people have fun ruining the party by killing the king... so annoying.I was in a game where someone did that. She said she did it by accident. I highly doubt it. Because I began warning her about the king a full minute or more before and telling her if she killed him she'd ruin the other char's ability to open any more cows games, etc. And instead of her char walking away she deliberatly walked right next to the walls where the king was. and then went inside and killed him :(

If you kill the King, the others will lose the ability to open the portal only if you killed him for the first time. If the killer already killed the King before, nobody will lose that ability.

That means it's a little hard to make a habit from it because you can spoil it for the others only once in the career of your character. Therefore I think most people lose that ability to open the portal because they killed the King themselves, as either they think they already lost the ability or because they don't care about it anyway.
