Raymond Herrera from Fear Factory. Listen to the intro of Slave Labor or Demanufacture to hear why.
neil peart from rush.
I'd agree along with Danny Carey.

Neil Peart wins.....
Although I like faster metal type drumming, this guy just blew me away on the DVD Rush in Rio.
Danny Carey of Tool, hands down.
Yes, although Neil Peart is a close second.
There are many other excellent drummers of course, but IMO none come close to those two.
I tend to listen to the drums a lot when I listen to music, sometimes even more so than I listen to the guitar. Guitar riffs can get old, but interesting, complex drumming never ceases to amaze me.
As mentioned Ian Paice (Deep Purple) is excellent.
Max Weinburg (E Street Band) is awesome.
John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and Keith Moon (The Who) also are at the top of the list.

You have pretty fine taste there, Amra. Those were the two names I was going to add.
Runner up: Peter "James" Bond of Spinal Tap - he was so awesome he spontaneously combusted on stage.

Travis Barker is amazing, why he is in still in such a suck *** band is beyond me.
His solo shows are pretty damn amazing.

Agree that he is amazing, though the band does not suck.
His solos are cruel, and he also manages to look insane when playing

I agree with the Tool and Zepplin statements.
What do you guys think about Lars? Excluding St.Anger, and some of their newer work, his drumming skills always impressed me.

Not necessarily in order, but some of my favorite drummers:
Bill Bruford - Yes
Charlie Watts - Rolling Stones
Keith Moon - The Who
Bun Carlos - Cheap Trick
Neil Peart - Rush
Ginger Baker - Cream
You can't tell I am a classic rocker at heart! :p
My top three in no order are:
-Danny Carey (Tool)
-Phil Jordan (The Music)
-Chris Tsagakis (RX Bandits)

You could tell him that, but you'd be wrong. Considering it's spelled genius. Doofus.

Whenever one of these threads pops up at any place, it seems no one has ever heard of Carter Beaufort.

as i said in the "best guitar player" thread a while back, you ahve to forget all the rock pop metal etc stuff and look at jazz
joey baron
noone else comes even close, noone
I'm also going to have to agree on Danny Carey from Tool.
However, I'm becoming more and more inclined to say Zac Hill from Team Sleep. The complexity and quickness of his beats is simply incredible. I was amazed by his work on the Team Sleep CD, but then got to see them in concert and he totally blew me away. It was hard to take my eyes off him, just watching him go back and forth across the entire drums set with astounding agility. At one point, he was so into it that he knocked one of his crash cymbals off the stand. Luckily it was near the end of a song, so it didnt screw anything up. Chino went over, grabbed the cymbal, put it on his head like one of those Chinese hats, and laughed at himself for being stupid  good times

awesoem jazz drummer i know him in real life too
Ticks and Leeches
I especially like him in the last minute or so of The Grudge. He goes pretty crazy there.
George the new drummer for Nile he owns
Martin from Opeth
Exactly. George Kollias from Nile tops everything I've ever heard in my previous life. You guys should definitely listen to at least one song from him. "Cast Down The Heretic" is where he shines.

You had a previous life? Were you like King Tut or something? Maybe an Indian maiden? Or wait...I know! You were Howard Hughes!
Can you loan me a couple hundred 'till payday? ;)

That's right I had a previous life, and a damn good one too. Sure I can loan you a couple hundred, but I'm going to need some collateral.
