i havent played in 2 years, and i must admit the economy changed a lot. and i have difficulty to figure it out.
so nowadays, is it still needed?

Check the stickies in the Trade Values forum. These will give you an idea of current values. Bartucs are only worth a few pgems at best. Chaos (runeword) claws seem to be the endgame item for assys now. Things like the lightsabre and buriza are worth even less.
