Just a quickie. Is cow farming in Nightmare the best place to get those 4 socket polearms, shields and swords?

I'm pretty sure the drop rate is only accelerated when the people in the game are in your immediate area.

not sure where this mis-information got engrained in my mind, i've always thought that players had to be in the immediate area to get the increased drop bonus, but upon further review of the diabloii sites mf section they claim that that is not the case. can anyone verify that proximity indeed plays no role?

Is over 5 years of play verification enough? Its a universal drop booster. Of course it would be easy enough to test yourself :)

According to the drop calculator i use proximity matters for chance of no drop from normal monsters.
Players/chance of no drop if all in same area/cance of no drop if all in different area:

1/62.5/62.5
2/62.5/38.78
3/38.78/24.05
4/38.78/14.29
5/24.05/9.09
6/24.05/4.76
7/14.29/3.23
8/14.29/1.64


I think this calculator may be from 1.09, so the numbers may be outdated. If so, could someone please give the correct numbers?
