defiance or fantacism

Assuming you made a smiter just for dueling melee characters, which would be the better aura, defiance for synergising holy shield and giving massive defence, or fantacism for more damage and speed. (btw exile or aura giving items will not be used)

i would go for fana, since it both adds damage and attackrating, and even attackspeed. Even if defiance makes you harder to hit, its worth nothing if you cant hit your enemy hard enough before he lands the deadly hit on you.

Well attack rating doesnt matter, since its smite, and *most* of the damage will come from crushing blow and open wounds anyway so im not THAT concerned about extra physical damage and speed.

It depends whether you are using Holy Shield or not, Defiance can syn. Holy Shield's Defence Rating.

I would go for Fanactism for the Speed and Damage (melee characters usually have hard time of hitting Paladins with Holy Shield on)

or you can be special and make a Defiant Smiter.
