I know its offseason for the NFL but I was just wondering if they're many football fans on the SPF. My favorite team is the Buffalo Bills (I live in Buffalo NY) and I'm looking forward to next year.

Soccer is the game of the Dutch. There are some Football teams in the Netherlands but most of us prefer soccer (and speedskating :D )
Living in Sweden, the games that are shown on TV is kinda... limited. But I tend to watch Super Bowl every year since I find the sport really interesting. I really like the whole idea of talking tactics and then a short play etc...
Playing Madden 05 like mad too as the Minnesota Vikings. So there you have my fav team too. If there was more games on TV i would watch more NFL than I am now :)

Same here. I don't like the sport, where there is 2min talking, 10 seconds action. The same for baseball. Ice-hockey and volleyball rule.

Yea, ive watched some games before, and it seems just like 3/4 of the time is spent talking, or getting ready to play. It seems alot of the USA dominated sports are like this. basketball is the exception, and i quite enjoy watching it.

It's beer and a damn good one too :)

That's the best part. I really like guessing what they will try to do next and what kind of ideas they have up their sleeves :)

Did you know it's a Dutch beer? I live about 20 km from the brewery

Football is THE sport on the planet. Hockey is a close second. Personally, I love to play volleyball (2-3 times a week usually). I am a huge Chargers fan, they are going to do great things this year!!

football?
pfft.
Lose the pads and helmets, play offense AND defense, quit taking timeout every play to figure out what you're gonna do next, and it might be worth watching.
Gimme a good game of rugby or league any day :D

Fully agree. Rugby involves the same forces and collisions, yet all the padding they have is a shirt. 7" thick steel plates and a titanium helmet, rugby players would laugh at that, then slap them round the face.
Plus, rubgy isnt totally commercialised.

Still compete?? I don't recall seeing the Vikings play without Randy Moss yet, so who knows if they can compete. :D
I am a huge Cardinals fan... this year we are so winning the division... okay it will be a really bad division, but fans of notoriously sucky teams cannot be picky.
I love cricket and hockey more than football though.

Go Lions!!!!!
Detriot Lions pwn all u nOObs!!!! Ok....well maybe we can win like..oh maybe...7 or 8 games this year...then again..maybe not.
P.S. Nice to see so many hockey lovers! I am a good old Canadian boy and to not be totally obsessed with hockey is to invite ridicule :D
Well I'm a Broncos fan myself and I want to say they'll do good things this year....but their offseason has been strange. Signing a bunch of Browns, getting Maurice Clarrett (in the 3rd round!!!) and another shaky draft have all put a damper on my hopes of them contending again :(.
Also for you rugby lovers, I would love to see them go all out and collide at full speed (think John Lynch if you know American football) while not wearing pads, but it won't ever happen. It's mainly seems like a bunch of dudes hopping in piles and scratching and clawing at each other....which is why pads aren't really all that useful.
Also, American football is such a high speed game that if they played both offense and defense + had no time outs no one would last more than 5 years in the league and what would that accomplish?

GodofWar: I'm from Syracuse. GO BILLS!!!!!!! I'm real excited to see what JP can do this year. I mean, it can't be any worse than Bledsoe, right? :P The team has a lot of young talent--JP, McGahee and Evans on offense, Clements, McGee, TKO and Schobel on defense...things are looking bright for us :D

Not lately sadly. Although Notre Dame does have some great history and the movie Rudy is just plain spectacular, but they have had some bad years recently (along with CU Boulder and University of Nebraska though :( ) and I can't see them getting out of that "slump" for atleast a few more years.

They do collide at full speed, and although yes, there so slow times in thr agme when basically its 1 team pushing against another, at least its constant. 80 minutes, with a half time in the middle. And unless someone picks up a very serious injury, or the refs need to decide if someone scored a try, then there is no stoppage. The stop start style of american football just seems less exciting. A flowing game with counter attacking, sudden changes in momentum and stuff is more exciting than 'Ok, you have the ball, try and score. if you do, give the ball to the other team, they'll try and score. If your really good/lucky, you can steal the ball and score youself.'
Bah, anyway, im ranting, and im bored.

You do realize, of course, that this describes every single game that has such aspects as "points" and "balls." Including rugby and that other "football" as well.

I am a Steelers fan, and I am a football fan, I watched all 16 steelers games last year, plus there playoff games, and I watched 4 games a week every week. I get NFL sunday ticket. Broncos are my second favorite team, and it was interesting how they picked up all of the browns unproved lineman. although they do have alot of depth at cornerback and runningback... but anyone can run the ball in denver and i think shanahan is just trying to prove that point.
JP lossman will have a better year than bledsoe no matter what, because I bet he won't hold on to the ball to long(bledsoes major problem) And he will have a much better running game, i think this is going to be Mcgahees breakout year, plus last year I think they had the 3rd best defense in the league(don't quote me on that but i know it was in top 5) I think that bills are a playoff contender, to bad that they are in a tough division, I think the jets got better, and the pats well, they are the pats(poor dolphins are going to get owned)
Eli manning still doesn't have the target he needs. While Plexico is a GREAT number 2 wide reciever I don't think he has the moves to handle the double teams he is going to see as a number one wide reciever, and Shockey actually got worse last year, although his numbers were still good.
As far as college football I am a Penn State fan, Long live Coach Paterno...... I really hope they improve next year it is sad to see such a coaching legend go out that way.

I like the Redskins, one of these days they will win again... We just have to get rid of Snyder.
Oh, and real football is American football, not soccer. Don't ever let anyone else tell you different!

I think he's a spoiled brat who doesn't deserve to play in the NFL. He pretty much forced his way out of San Diego (who btw, were actually good last year so who won that war?) and got a lot of hype just because of his brother. He may turn out to be a somewhat decent quarterback down the line(crap look at his genes!), but he will never be as good as Peyton and will never be a decent person in my eyes.
That being said I hope the Giants can turn their franchise around and I really hope the NFC can shape up all around :).

I was born and raised in Maine. I like the Pats. The only pro sports game I watched was Pats vs Colts (September 30, 2001 (Pats stomped the hell out of them)). I'm not a big baseball fan, and besides I'd have to sell a kidney to watch the BoSox play at Fenway, although I did watch the playoffs last year. I think the Pats will do good again this year, and I hope Bruschi comes back. I'm glad some of the coaches got other job (Lucky you Whom, you picked up a jewel in Wies) but I'm sad to see them go. I'd like to see the Dolphins turn things around this year, although I'm not sure I like Ricky Williams coming back. I think the Bills will do good this year, they have a very solid team, and they are used to playing in the cold. I hope they take a pile of money from Kellen Winslow. If he can't be responsable enough of the feild, he shouldn't get paid to sit on the sidelines. I look forward to the season opener. Pats and Raiders, the "team" versus the "me". However, I'm not a big fan of them letting Troy Brown go. He is the epitome of a team player. Go Pats

I'm a lifelong Packers fan - even in the 70s and 80s when they were terrible. :D I manage to get to Lambeau about once a season. What a great stadium!
The Pack has certainly had an interesting offseason. Favre's back for one more year, and Walker is saying "show me the money" (that agent, Rosenhaus is really a piece of work). Finding Aaron Rodgers at #24 had to be the steal of the draft.
I find it very interesting that everyone is picking the Vikings in the NFC North. Makes for good sports talk anyway.
Oh, and you rugby and soccer fans, go find your own thread. ;)

I agree, Rosenhaus needs to die a horrible death....or at the very least have his legs broken by the mafia.

Everyone is picking the Vikings? Hmm, I truthfully think that this division is up for grabs. Whoever wants it the most will get it, and because of this my money is on Favre. No one loves to play/win more than he does, it will be sad to see him go.

ESPN's preseason power rankings have vikings at number 4. thats way to high if you ask me, although the NFC is going to be weak again this year i think.
I have a problem..... I grew up in Cleveland and am a Browns fan. No, wait... I haven't got to my problem yet. The problem is this: I graduated from Ohio State and am a HUGE Buckeyes fan. Cleveland's top draft pick, Braylon Edwards is from Michigan! *Sigh* In all honesty, I don't follow pro ball to nearly the extent I follow NCAA. To me the NCAA is so much more exciting because every saturday a loss could take you out of the picture for national title. I'm a bit skeptical of the BCS system, though. Especially since they no longer are able to use the associated press poll as part of their formula.

Bills defense was #2 last year...and they were #1 in special teams (or special forces, as they liked to call it)...its too bad the offense was #25 or so.
The Bills did get screwed out of the playoffs last year with some bad calls in the early season games--but I won't get into that unless someone wants me to, lol.
Power rankings mean little-to-nothing now, last year they had the Titans and Chiefs in the top 6 or 7...and we all know how that turned out :P However, I think people are looking at the Vikes in that division because of the Walker holdout, the fact that Green Bay lost a bunch of linemen, and still have a shaky defense. The team I'd watch out for would be Detroit, though. They have a young, talented offense (Kevin Jones, The Williams Mike and Roy plus Charles Rogers (if he stays healthy)) and they finally won some road games...in the weak NFC, they could be a Wild Card team.
As far as Drew Rosenhaus, I'm scared whats going to happen after this season if McGahee busts out and then holds out for a new/better contract because of his agent. The Bills took a huge risk drafting Willis when they did and I can see Rosenhaus having him hold out to get a big contract (although, the guy they would've picked there was available when they picked in the 2nd round and they got him anyways--Chris Kelsay--but still..)...which will really suck because Clements is a UFA and McGee is a RFA, plus Milloy, Posey, Adams and a couple other big names have contracts that are expiring over the next couple seasons.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Pats handle losing both their coordinators---Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis are very good coaches, and I think pretty boy Tom Brady might be in for some trouble. The Bills should be able to take one game from them, now that Bledsoe won't be costing them the game with all the sacks, ball-tapping, INTs, etc...
Eli Manning is a punk. Everyone was knocking JP saying that he had an attitude problem and whatnot..but who was the one that said he would not play for the team that drafted him first overall?? When you're going to be a top pick in the draft, you're going to play on a bad team...Deal with it you cry baby  JP is cocky, but knows his place on the team--just like Jim Kelly when he got drafted.
I think its funny...Archie Manning didn't want his son to play for a team that didn't have a good front office, but A.J. Smith (the Chargers' GM) looks like a genious after last years draft--they got the QB they really wanted with Philip Rivers---too bad for him that he held out...plus they got 3 extra picks including a 1st rounder this year.
I'm just rambling now...I just can't wait for the season to start! I'm always excited for the new season, but I'm especially excited for this coming season.
My favorite team is the Jaguars, because they were started the year I started to follow football (1995 if you didnt know). My favorite players on the team are Marcus Stroud, Bryon Leftwich, John Henderson and Fred Taylor. I think they will beat the Colts in AFC east this year, because of their good defense and aquiring better wide recievers. My favorite player in the NFL is Randy Moss though, wish he joined jaguars :D .

College football > NFL

Simple, really.
The former would be true if we actually had a champion and not an elitist system designed to make money for core "elite" schools. I am a HUGE Nortre Dame football fan (and I do realise the irony of my first statement), and am anxiuos to see how Charlie Weiss can recruit. I think in 2-3 years the talant in the program will finally be ND quaility again.
As for the NFL, it's pretty obvious from my forum name that I am a Chicago Bears fan. I don't have much hope for my team to be too much better this year, since the front office still doesn't think a minor position like QUARTERBACK is worth addressing.
This year in the NFC Central will be the official changing of the gaurd between the Packers and the Vikings. The Vikings have massively upgraded their defesene, especially at cornerback, and they still have a lot of talant on offense. They need to run the ball more often with that stable of quality backs.

You can have him. He takes plays off and has a horrible team attitude. A player with some heart and even half of his talent would be unstoppable.
I love football, but living in Kentucky, I don't have a hometown team with which to align myself. I've really gotten into fantasy football, so I have favorite players on a lot of teams. I know it's really early, but if there were sufficient interest, we could have a ff league for the spf and I'd be willing to coordinate.
