Only Blizzard knows the truth about if and when D3 will come out.
And you may want to read the forum rules and the PM I sent you before posting further.
Diablo is a huge franchise for Blizzard, there will be a Diablo 3. The only question is when.
I can remember there were rumours it was gonna come out in May....2003

unlikely.
The original designers of Battlent and a fair few lead programers and designers from Diablo all left Blizzard and formed ArenaNet.
they have almost finished GuildWars - this will probably be as close as you will get to a D3.
Blizzard will unlikely make anything to compete with their vastly popular World of Warcraft.
Players will expect no monthly fees - as D1 and D2 were free to play online.
If they go and make an awesome D3 then they could risk loosing WOW players this would obviously be a very poor financial decision. (as WOW charages members montly access fees.)
And what plot would u have for Diablo III anyway?
To be honest WOW still has bugs and I believe that Blizzards resources are heavily used at the moment implementing fixes and new content I dont believe they have the man power to design a new game and release it anytime soon.
What? so the ppl who made diablo arnt even part of blizzard anymore? why? and there would be a great story line for diablo 3 remember the ending of act5!??!!?

not everyone left - about half the team left though.
While they were making world of warcraft - the big boys at blizz said that world of warcraft would charge a monthly fee to play it.
They all disagreed with it and said ppl shouldnt have to pay a monthly fee - they then broke away from Blizzard and formed ArenaNet.
You will note that their first game GuildWars does not have a monthly fee - and all new content u have the choice to purchase or not to purchase - they wont force u to ever pay for content.

I guess - after all we only destroyed mephis soulstone - could have to go destroy the other ones at some stronger forge....
***
Or a new prime evil could spawn and want the last prime evils portfolios!
Like u guys I was dissapointed about the lack of expansion packs - D2X sold 7 million copies worldwide - seems silly to me not to make at least one more expansion pack as a minimum!!
I know they would of sold a good 2 million copies easy with out even trying to hard.

Well, Blizzard is trying to hire a crap load of people now, and also if you go to arreat's summit and look under act5 monsters and click on that last monster. It gives information of a new world where demons live that are worse than the Prime evils. So I'm guessing that's what going to drive the new plot for d3. Or blizzard is hiring to speed up the fixes for WoW.

So I'm guessing that's what going to drive the new plot for d3.So basically, what you are saying is that the suspected plot for Diablo III would be based on a joke by some Blizzard employees. This sure sounds hopeful for the future... :uhhuh:
Seriously, I really don't know what to think about Diablo III. Blizzard sure is hiring lots of new blood, but it could be for several projects. As what storyline concerns, there are already hundreds of speculations - and every single one of them is in sillyness only exceeded by the next ones. So far, the most plausible story I have weeded out, is that instead of destroying the Worldstone, Tyrael got corrupted by it, and this fallen Archangel will be your Arch nemesis in Diablo III. But actually, this sounds more like a storyline for an expansion to me, not an entirely new game.
How about a prequel, back in the days of the Horadrim? Being able to meet young Cain would certainly prove interesting.

Starcraft was also wildly popular but it's much older than D2. Yes, there is action game coming out set in that universe but no strategy game. I don't think Bliz will bother with a sequel in the near future. WoW is huge. Pay for play is unfortunately starting to look like the future of gaming.
Diablo 3 should happen a few years after D2 ended; around Tristram.
With mephisto, Diablo and Baal banished back to hell, people from all corner of earth came to Tristram to rebuild the town. Over those few years, Tristram transformed form a former trading post to proper Market town, bring in traveller and goods from all corner of earth.
Behind the town’s new found fortune, the pass did not die easily. Rumour saying the Butcher is back same as the skeletal king. they haunt the town at night.
So bring in everyone form D1 and D2, add alchemist (someone actually make potion, drink it, transform into some beast “Dr Hyde”), Hydrolic Priest (enhancement / cleric) and some other class that u can think of.
Here is some other skill I think would be nice.
Bring in Skeletal King properly for Necromancer, transform him into a bone warrior. So make a skill call skeletal armour; which cannot be cast if the necro is wearing armour. The skeletal armour will make lnecro ooks like King Leoric but the necro is trapped in the rib cage with some flesh hold him in place. The skeletal king will still use the what ever weapon the necro is holding. skeletal armour is like bone armour only better and look different
Make Bone Sword for Necro to complement the Leoric theme. If the necro is holding any weapons (or shields) then it cannot be casted. When cast a 2 hand bone sword is made and stuck on to nerco’s hand until it expires, or breaks.
So if you cast skeletal armour and bone sword it make you look like leoric.
I think for alchemist he should be able tot make some potion and use it as proper grenade. Should similar to D2 Amazon’s Pauge Javalin..
Oh also, all player will be in hardcore. And there is a trade skill to resurrect. So it encourage people to play in pubby game just incase he/she dies.
The ultimate boss got to be Nihlathak, afterall, everyone skip his quest so to do pindle run. So it is right to bring him back. He is necro so he can revives too, so all these old monster can come back.

The problem is, Dazuni, that with the destruction of the Worldstone, the world as people knew it ceased to exist.
I've just discovered this little tidbit in one of Garwulf's columns on the main page of diabloii.net.Time to flash back a bit: it is early August 2000, and I'm reading over the Diablo Writer's Bible, looking for moments in the timeline that might make for a good e-book and praying that my pitch to Blizzard goes well. One section deals with the second game, newly released at the time, and the section after that has a plot rundown of the expansion.
So, I knew all about the destruction of the Worldstone, the siege of the Barbarian village, and those other lovely expansion tidbits almost a year before it was actually released. And, I also know what will come next, assuming there is a Diablo III.Entire article (http://www.diabloii.net/garwulfs/garwulfs-no22.shtml)
So there is in fact room for the story to continue? Interesting...

Well, prequel games are OK and I think that fighting alongside Tal Rasha would be a lot better than fighting against him (for those who forgot, Baal's currently in possession of that Horadric mage's body and knowledge). You could still fight the Prime Evils and participate in their capture. Meeting Izual before he officially turned (I think since he convinced Tyrael to use the soulstones in the first place, he had already turned to the dark but maybe your character won't know that) might be a treat. As there would be other Horadric mages around, maybe there would also be more Cube recipes (each mage might have a unique recipe that only they know). It COULD work.

Yes, there will be, but no time soon is my guess.
Why make a 3rd installment when they are still profiting from the second?
I would think that when the cost to run the D2 servers outweighs the money they are making from the game, they'll start developing it.

I still dont think there will be a D3
Why make D3 which we would expect to be free online to compete with WOW which makes Blizz money every week from subscriptions?
They would just loose WOW subscriptions as ppl converted to a free D3.
That wouldnt make good business sense - unless they charged monthly fees for it and made it more in depth to appeal to a more hard core rpg market...
That way they may cover 2x niches in the market.
Here it is - what is supposed to be Diablo 3:
http://news.gamewinners.com/index.php/news/2633/
While it is not called that, it is created by the lead designers of Diablo....

As long as WoW meets Blizzards expectations they won't make a new game.
And if they DO decide to make a new game eventually, there's still the question whether it will be another ripoff scheme like WoW or a playable game --- remember, gaming companies just LOVE those "get money every month" schemes. It also ensures that people will stop playing a game when THEY want them to --- turn off the servers, and nobody will be able to play the game anymore. Great money-making scheme.
So don't expect too much from a D3...

you are correct =) guild wars is pretty much a BETTER graphic game but is kinda like d2 but in diff game play and better story line =) ive been playing beta cant wait for it to come out in a few more weeks, there will most likely never be a DIII

If D3 would start now it would take Blizzard like 5 years just to finish it. Just look at SCG and WOW.

eh to be honest we can talk about this all day and we wont know the answer. blizzard doesnt want to say anything about it either, to keep our hopes up or if they dont know themselves so the only thing we can do now is just hope for d2 lol
Well, my favourite possible story would be that Tyrael and the angels of heaven were into this Prime Evil war thing to take control of the mortal world themselves. I mean it wasnt the angels business to help mankind destroying the Evils, but Tyrael was doing it anyway, against the will of God, for what i understood, so i always thought that the reason Tyrael wanted Diablo and Baal dead was so he could =P
And why on Earth did he destroyed the Soulstone? I dont buy that whole "Baal corrupted the stone" story. I think Tyrael is very suspicious =P
