View Full Version : OT: What's on your desktop?

I thought it would be fun to see what everyone has on their desktop. Show everyone how cluttered/clean your monitor is :p

http://img171.exs.cx/img171/4253/desktop8qm.jpg

There is mine. As you can see, it is starting to get cluttered. It is a family computer, which is the reason for most of the games. Oh, and I like HL 2 :D

Right now I don't really have anything, besides my Diablo II folder with lots of guides and stuff and my Diablo II mod folder with mod stuff and stuff:) I got tired of all the crap I had (new folder 1, new folder 2 etc) and moved it all to a folder on my c: drive. There used to be a lot of StarCraft documents because I'm trying to balance some defence maps I'm tinkering with, and also some new mp3 files that I really need to listen to so I can transfer them to my mp3 folder or delete if they are crap. I like to keep it clean, but it's almost like cleaning your room... hard work:(

Oh and of course a folder with shortcuts to all of my games.. I also use win98 so I have most of my other icons in my toolbar at the bottom of the screen so they don't clutter up the desktop.

2 things. Plus a hacked uxtheme.dll so I can use looks other than Windows defaults. :)

I get away with it by using the quicklaunch bar and the frequently used programs in the start menu.

Normal:

Using ObjectDock:
http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload0/desk2.jpg

I have a love/hate relationship with ObjectDock. It works great for the most part, but it's that part that doesn't work great that makes me stop using it until the next revision when I go through the process all over again.

If I weren't too lazy to clean up the assorted TXT files and such (which I use to jot down phone numbers, etc.) mine would be fairly uncluttered.

edit: Hiedran reminded me about my own uxtheme.dll hacking days and I immediately downloaded a new theme. Desktop is the same, but start menu, etc. loks much cleaner and is more compact

I have 1 icon on my desktop, which is the recycle bin, and I have show desktop icons turned off, so it is sparkly clean, I also have the start bar on hide, so its just a picture of my desktop picture. I use the taskbar instead of the desktop. When other people use my computer, they sometimes get confused and think my computer is locked up :)

I got rid of all of my desktop icons. I like things nice and clean.

Um, yeah, that is still a 2004 calendar as the desktop graphic. I really should update that...

This (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload8/dtop.jpg) is my desktop. Yes, I did just clean it of excess icons. :) Although, there weren't that many excess icons anyway...

Normally I'd prefer it with minimal icons - but I've kinda gotten used to D2/ATMA on the desktop, and the two grail lists, so they've planted themselves there.

I haven't had a chance to either, they're doing test weekends and the next one is next weekend. Looks good though, some of the D2 team are in on it.

My desktop is fairly cluttered. I have all sorts of things on it. but i know where everything is, except when i accidently drag something and it automatically resorts itself. should probably turn that off.
My wallpaper is a WC3 one with a cool dude fellow.

My desktop is one of the pics I took of my dog a few years ago.

http://img34.exs.cx/img34/5783/desktop8kq.jpg

Not too many icons, as you can see. This is the desktop for my secondary windows profile. For some reason, ATMA won't work on the primary one so if I want to play D2 I log into this one. Sometimes also I will have some .torrent files on the desktop, but I took those out for the pic.

This is mine. I also like to have nothing on it but the recycling bin..eventually this files will be deleted or moved to "My Documents."

I used to have an all black one on my old computer cause it just made things run alittle smoother.

Typically its a picture of my girlfriend, some hot girl or pictures from my vacations. Now though I gotta celebrate the victorious Bobcats and their whooping on Florida friday.

Hehe, she doesn't live near me, so I can change it before she comes ;)

Also I can't stand having messy desktops, I have other more organized places to put things, or use my menus/quick launch to do it.

I have used this wallpaper for about 1/4 of the time since it was released on diabloii.net, and have actually been recognised at lans because of it.
I also love a clean desktop, but I do have to clean it every so often as it does tend to collect stuff.

This is at home (http://i154.exs.cx/img154/6945/home6na.jpg) and the picture depicts me :D from my skiing holiday a couple of weeks ago.
My other desktop is at work (http://img57.exs.cx/img57/4870/work1vp.jpg) and depicts my girl and me, taken around a year ago in my old apartment.

Why does your work desktop have an image filed called "STFU NOOB"? :D

That ObjectDock looks a lot like the Dock in Mac OS X!
And it's free!

http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/

However, it seems to have stopped working on me a few times randomly. I guess it didn't like me switching from my laptop display to my monitor and back so much. Back to the Windows taskbar... *sigh*

Now I've hidden my desktop icons (all 2 of them) so there's not much other than a picture of my wife visible. (Though she's hidden because I thoughtlessly left a window in front of her.)

The only reason I have any icons is because I like to have Winamp hotkeyed to Ctrl-Alt-W for quick starting and it doesn't seem to work if it's not on the desktop. My guess is if I set my path to my WinAmp dir it would work, but that would require changing. :D

It's FC3 (granted, with the tell-tale hat removed from the menu, it's tougher to spot).

I have actually tried xfce and flux. I really just like gnome better. Sure, it's less effecient, but I've got resources to burn anyway.

Yeah, that's sadistically mean. It's not as destructive if you right click on the desktop and choose "Arrange Icons By" and uncheck "Show Desktop Icons." (Which I have done to coworkers.)

change all the targets for the desktop icons, so they all open up different programs, but look like normal. :)

water_moon
06-04-2005, 18:26
I think it'd be more fun to move and then hide icons, task bars, etc. then switch the background to look like part of their screen saver, so they think the whole thing's locked but programs are popping up when they randomly click in the wrong places. Plus you can't get in trouble for malicious behavior.

Once in my BCA class, I made an icon that had an exclamation mark and named it 'Virus,' and had it set to open Internet Explorer.

My teacher's stupid, so when I showed her, and opened it, she got pissy, and started yelling at me for putting a virus on the computer.

It's also fun to tell your teachers System32, or Explore.exe, is a virus, and they must delete it immediately.
