View Full Version : So, Hammerdin only Viable with Pcombat GCs?

After listening to many complaints about how overpowered a out of the box hammerdin was without any godly gear, I decided to build one myself. I didn't find anything terribly 'overpoered' about him. Here's my gear, etc.
Skills:
Max Hammer
Max Blessed Aim
Max Vigor
all rest are prereqs, and at lvl 65 I have 7 points to spare
stats:
94 str
20 dex (base)
191 vitality
100 energy
Gear:
Enigma
Shako
Isted Lidless
Magefist
Goldwrap
War Travs
+3 Pcombat ammy/SOJ/Raven Frost
Hand of Blessed Light
Output: 2.2K damage at lvl31 hammer. Unless I don't know about a hidden synergy or other gear it can't get too much better than that without pcombats.
I could switch to Hoz, Hoto and Arachs when I get high enough, but I doubt that this would bring me over 3K, if that. Can you really do bigger dmg with hammers without going to pcombats? How the heck do people get 12K worth of hammer dmg?
Do you use Concentration? ;) (I'm not sure, but I've heard that it boosts hammer damage (never tried a Hammerdin myself)).
u HAVE to have concentration on. its the only aura that effects bh dmg and boosts its dmg A LOT
also u probably need to rebuild ur hammerdin. if u have all that gear, im assuming u are playing tweaked. so ur stats are a little messed up. first only put enought pts in strenght to wear ur gear. next, put enough pts in dex to have max block w/ holy shield. everything else in vitality, and nothing in energy.

kove's right. if you dont have max concentration youre missing the whole point. thats the paladin formula...combat skill + aura.

I can appreciate the need for max block with such close combat, but even without tele I am finding that I need about the amount of mana I have.

I have met a few pl in the last few days that made the same mistake, it happens. my hammers go from under 3k damage to just under 10k from having concentration off to on

First, yes, max block is important to have, since you will have no leech at all, only relying on def and block to survive (and killing speed ofc)
Second, if you play ladder, Insight runeword will solve the problem with mana, if you put it on your merc. Another soj wouldnt be that bad either. I assume you picked ravenfrost because of cannot be frozen and dex, but the cbf doesnt matter, since you probably will teleport most of the time. else you have a maxed vigor aura :)
You can always put one point in redemption or meditation for recovering mana. both works very well, and redemption also restores life, so i'd say that is your best bet.
However, if you use Insight runeword on your merc, meditation will be active all the time, so you might not need any extra aura to switch to in emergency.
And an equip tip: I have always loved Trangs gloves, they give you resists too, along with the desired cast rate ;)

remember: a good hammerdin has no pts in energy. why? 1 pt in energy only gives u 1.5 mana which is really a waste in the long run. just get a lot of blue pots and bear w/ it in the lower lvls. once u get redemption, then u no longer have mana problems. try changing ur gear for more mana as well. get another soj, and change to silkweaves instead of wts.
ok a typical NON insightONmerc hammy does this............
maxed Bhammers, maxed synergys for hammers
maxed concentration
ONE pnt in redemption ( even if you have an insight merc, still get ONE pnt in redemption, til then your captain potter sipin on blue koolaid)
conc is on all the time as your runnin aura
walk into range to get the monsters moving to you while spamming a field of hammers....
a BUNCH die
you move around more spawnin more monsters to come at you
Spam MORE hammers...
ALL die...
now Click to redemption ( hotkey it conc and tonportal as f6 f7 and f8)
all the dead are redeeemed for life an mana....
and your potting days are OVER......
when u get low on mana
redeem the dead....
spam more ....
more dead....
see???

You don't absolutely need combat Gcs but they are quite important in PvP. In PvM, generally hammers are powerful enough on their own.

What about FCR rings? I have two 10% fcr rings and have cham'd my hoz for the cannot be frozen mod, and don't need the raven as much anymore. Thoughts?

check your total fcr, and compare it to breakpoints to see if it would help you. you might also want to use rings with resists (if you are lucky you can find fcr+good res in same ring...)
If you find out you wont need any more fcr, sojs are never wrong, really. Skills = damage, mana = ability to create damage :D

imo u need that extra skill and more mana. as long as u reach the 75% breakpoint. if u are going for hte 125%, they u probably need that extra fcr ring. also y did u socket ur hoz for a cham? thats really a waste. hammerdins do not really need cannot be frozen mod. u should have socketed wit a p diamond or um rune for resists b/c thats more important.

I personally didn't-- I obtained the cham'd hoz which a buddy of mine traded from his pvp smiter... apparently he was worried about the cold dmg. Thx for the info guys!
