View Full Version : charge pally weapon?
I'm thinking of making a new pvp char you dont see much..
20 charge
20 vigor
20 might
20 smite
something like that
my question is what weapon should i use? right now im considering either
Doom eth cryptic axe
BOTD war pike
fyi im on nonladder so i might not have access to some of the stuff recommended
also, im not sure whether or not to get a shield or no... im hoping to be able to outrun most melee. I'm making this build cause im tired of teleporting everywhere whenever i get scared... i'd rather run like a real man.
My general strategy will be to run and run and then charge and hope for a one hit kill, if not then switch to smite and stun then charge again. something like that... ill know more when i complete him. do you think that a one handed weapon will make this build less efficient because he cant kill as fast?
i'm making a chargedin my self and i'm toossing up between zerk grief , botd zerk , doom zerk ..... and yes botd war pike has come into mind seeing how it does so nice uber dmg .... shields , hoz , eth vortex not to sure yet ..
why not grief ???? botd doesn't ignore taget diffence making it a 2 -3 hit kill
just wandering wat amour u using on ur charger ?? fort
grief and fort unavailable on nonladder

That, and ITD doesn't matter in PVP.
granted uber damage is a major concern with a charger but im given to think the use of a two handed weapon will leave you open to a lot of area effect casters like orb sorcs etc etc..without resist and blocking I think your really inviting death from a distance.
Id suggest finding a great one hand weap that does major damage or has a lot of DS and use the hit and run tactic.
while covering your butt with a shield.
even a Sanctuary shield with major resist I would think whould be a great option since your not sluggin it out and standing your ground in one place. ( sanc Rune word can net you some major resists aka 45 from shield base and 50-70 from roll)
plus its got the mods for blocking.
id tend to gravitate to a sanc pally shield like say sacred targe or roundache for the high base block on both and something that kicks out major damage like grief or something with a lot of DS ...
you may not be killing everything in one hit but I think you would live long enough to hit more than once.
i just made my self a charger pally the one major thing it was lacking was ar i could it anything so i put 2 anglic rings on 1 angelic ammy bam 16 k ar + fant arua
i was a pure chargedin so i tested out all the different builds botd war pike ... grief axe + fort + pheonix vortex and i got rapped when i came up against chars that had huge defense (ie godlys which is my ethier /f l).
If ur gona make charger, stick with smite 4 ur main attack ... lower ur charge points to 1-2 and pump 20 into fanat aura belive me your gona be thanking me later when u rape everything..
lol i just made a ladder charger.. fort phoenix etc... and on my first duel at lvl 70 i hit a 'godly' barb lvl 93 within 3 tries, and knocked off 3/4 his hp in 1 hit ^^... i definitely recommend a shield, and i too use angelic for 16k+ar.
I hav no trouble hitting most chrs, pallys and barb been the onli ones i dont hit 90%of the time, other chrs die in 1-2 hits, mostly 1. if u use grief you dont need to put more than 1 point in smite for it to be very effective.
Mayb the difference is that i am a low str charger, 114 str WITH items, using grief war axe.

if maxing the smite and only 1-2 points in charge it looks more like a smiter to me...

damn rite... u dont need to neway, the ed alone from fort is the equiv of maxing smite ^^ go for the 1hit kill against most chr with charge, 1/3-3/4 dmg to barb/high life pally
and rember... SMITE ISNT REAL MELEE

Hello Comrades ;)
I have just made a reckless charger and here are my equip and skill allocates to share with
Helm: Shako with 13 resist jewel (or u can um it) The reason I choose this because it gives good amount of life/mana and 10 damage reduction. Note: for a charger, +2 skill doesnt really mean a lot.
I am trying to get an 2 OS COA which might serve better in term of resist and damage reduction. Gona socket it with Ber and -15 req all resist jewel(explain later)
Ammy and Rings : Angelic since charger requires insane amount of AR, there is really nothing to substitude those. I have tried out Raven, BK, Mara, Highlord, but Angelic is the only option to go for here.
Weapon: BOTD zerker, along with fort and fanaticism, I have a whopping 4k-13k physical damage with charge, combine with a lvl 70 merc might aura, my max damage is over 14K.
Lately I have been trying to get my hands on Grief Zerker to test out how the ED enhancement on FORT applies on weapon damage.
Shield: HOZ (personally I think a pally 65% ED perfect phoenix will be more useful and makes this build more reckless, but I can not afford that> <)
Secondary: 5 BO CTA and a 25 FCR spirit shield ;) who cares about FCR when you only need the +skills for the BO. Note here: Charger only has few + skill gear since I can not use anything like Maras, BK or CoH, so a high BO CTA is prefered.
Armor: Fortitude, it gives good defense and a whopping 300% ED, and all resist comes in handy when you duel casters. But note, I found out fortitude only increase 400-1.5K damage on my charge, which is really weird.
Back up armor: 14 resist jeweled Guardian Angel (mainly against elemental), A good leviathan with -15 req jewel (I will explain later)
The stat on my levi is 50 str, 24 damage reduction. I think once I get my hands on a 2 ber COA, I can toss the levi away.
Belt+Boots combo 1: War travel + verdungo or T-god
combo 2: Hsarus boot + belt (similar to angelic)
Glove: Bloodfist (30 faster hit recovery and 40 life)
Skills:
Max Charge, Max Fanaticism, Max vigor
1 pt into salvation
Put rest points into either might or holy shield (you will realize that at this point, add one point into might will not make much difference in term of physical damage, charger doesnt really need block either, but more defense is always good to have)
Attributes:
Str: Enough to use the gear above. That's why I put a -req jewel into Levi and Coa (a whopping 174 Str req!!)
Dex: none, the only dex required gear is the BOTD zerker, if you have an annis, there is nothing to worry about. Even without dex, my charger has 23K AR with 2 angelic and Hrasus.
Vital: all rest of your points. My charger has 3K hp after the BO (I dont have anni, and I only have 2 20 life small charms)

SMITE ISNT REAL MELEE
melee in d2 is usually defined as close-range physical combat.
anyway...
i would go with a shield. with no shield and crap defense, u miss and u're dead. barbs will WW through u, and zealots will just shift+zeal or charge u back (they will never miss u).

How do u charge against WW bar or WW sin? Are they kinda immune when u charge against them? Usually they were intact and I died when I tried charging them.

Dont, wait untill the moment inbetween one ww and the next, then charge em and run away to avoid the next ww, this is tricky but if u practice you will get good at it, learning how to predict when the ww is going to end and so be able to time ur charge right.

Yeh BUT smite always hits, and real melee has attack rating, so smite doesnt really count... but thats just my opinion
