View Full Version : how to spot the unfair advantage?
i just need to get this autoaim thing right in my head...
i was in a pubby game blah blah blah....
right: a pala using enigma teleported on top of my character and all other characters perfectly from a screen and a half away. he couldnt see my character when he teled because i couldnt see him. was he just a very good player or am i a sore looser for thinking he may of had some outside help using a program?

It's very hard to tell if they actually AA'd or not, I know a lot of GM players without even Maphack who get accused of AA'in including myself.
I guess when you are standing in one spot for whatever reason and you see 5 Sentrys' being laid around you or Bone Spears' coming at you and the opponent is not on the screen, then yeah it's AA. But it's very difficult to tell when they teleport since Namelock allows you to to travel across a screen or more depending on if they clicked your name at the right time or not. If they click you name when you are about to teleport, they will be right on top of you when you finish teleporting miles away from where your opponent was originally; making it look like they've teleported 2 screens.

Sentrys, yes. Spears, no.
Spears can be aimed at you from more than one screen away due to the minimap and Shift-click attacking. I know because I often snipe like this with my characters.

If a spell gets perfectly namelocked on your before you reach their screen that's usually AA. For example if you get namelocked mind blasted before you're even on their screen it's AA.
If he teled on you before he even saw you that's AA or at least scrolling.

doesnt mean that the user uses AA, the shadow master is the AA machine hehe
well he constantly left and re-entered the game sometimes because he was about to die sometimes for no aparent reason. Most times i was in the blood moor and he came directly from town so had no oportunity to namelock me becase he couldnt see me..... all his teles were spot on, ive dueled some good duelers but this was.. different. if i could spot an aa or such in future i would just leave the game, no sense in giving them any entertainment. But if someone is just plain good then they deserve some respect not me complaining.
if you duel a lot you will notice who is using aa and who is not, for example all wind druids have a big advantage over bone necros in my opinion, then one day i met this necro and it was like he was teleporting and attacking at the same time,

that's why i said NAMELOCKED when you namelock mb someone you spam it but the shadow probably only hits them with mb like once
i also want to say another way to spot AA is if they cast thing at unnatural speeds but only the idiots that don't care if people know they AA do this

There are some tricks to getting effects like that but there is a good chance he was using AA.
1) Teleporting using the long diagonals of the screen, especially if you are on the bottom right or left of your opponent's screen. I can't confirm it, but it sure seems like they can actually hide behind your life/mana balls. By keeping just your opponents feet in your upper right or left corners you can actually namelock them when they can't see you. This is how it was described to me, seems to work.
2) Sometimes if they teleport on you via a namelock just as you are teleporting, they will end up on top of you just as you exit the teleport. Kind of like delayed teleport of sorts. This can very easily give the illusion of teleporting 2 screens perfectly ontop of someone. This one is easiest to spot though as it will only happen when they teleport onto you just as you teleport.
3) Namelock with another skill first, like Mind Blast, then if you have teleport on a hotkey for the same click then you can switch over to teleport while you still have a namelock from Mindblast and this can allow you to teleport directly ontop of the person from well over a screen away offscreen.
One other thing that gets people sometimes is they are playing at the lower resolution (640x480) instead of the larger one (800x600) and this will result in that player seeing less of the surrounding area than the other player. The higher resolution will make everything a bit smaller but give a much larger view.
I'm not sure just how bad this was and how consistent it was, it certainly could have been AA.

Click on the person's character (there name will display over their head) and then hold down the button. You will then proceed to continue attacking them with whatever attack you have selected or teleport to them, whatever.
