My brother told me about a problem he has been haveing with realm down. He said he couldnt play more than one game without getting realm as soon as he went to exit the game down for a few days. I just thought he was exaggerating since realmn down is not uncommon but when i got home for spring break all the sudden i am now haveing this problem, even though we are both useing different computers. i kill baal, then D, then meph, countess. and andy in the 1st game and as soon as i leave i get realm down every time. as soon as i get back on i only get in one game before i get kicked again. I never have this problem in my apartment so what could be causeing this at my parents house?

Battle.net may think you are a bot or running one.

This can happen if you join games and do other things too fast.

Back :

Ah the famous Realm Down...

Realm Down:

This is a very popular temporary ban provided by Blizzard to ensure that long lines do not re-occur. It also successfully stopped all but three of the major botting programs that were out last July.

Specs:

This ban will last from five minutes up to forty-eight hours. Note that this is dependant on your past banning habits and the severity of the reason banned. Multiple logon attempts will worsen your ban. Check after ten minutes, then every half hour afterwards. After 24 hours, hourly checkups are safe.

causes:

There are several factors that come into play here. The first is simple. Transitioning from the login screen to your character selection screen starts a log. Once you choose a character and proceed to the next screen that marks as a one. Reverting to the character screen and back to the next screen will move you up to a two. Do this too many times in a row and you will be thrown out to the login screen.

The second factor is game creation and game joining. Once you leave a game a counter starts up and notes how long it takes for you to join your next game. I believe that if a pattern is caught in this transition, you are kicked out. Joining or creating games too quickly also causes this ban.

The third factor is spam. Spam can mean a various amount of actions done repeatedly without stopping. Listed below are examples of this:

-Overuse of the mouse wheel
-Spamming text three or more times rapidly
-Using a skill over and over again without stopping or moving. (normal game play will not boot you)
-Opening and closing the NPC shop screen over and over again without stopping.
-The use of multiple waypoints, one after the other.
-Constant use of a skill that doesn't have a delay timer. (once again, not in normal game play)
-You should get it by now.

prevention:

-Entering the chat screen between leaving for a new character or a new game.
-Slowing down your leaving and joining/creating of games.
-Avoiding any kind of spam.

It is possible that the realm is really down with this message. This can easily be checked here at the forums. the "Battle.net Status" forum is there for that reason.

There are other solutions to the realmdown which aren't supported by Blizzard. If anyone posts these solutions, they will be reported asap.

Any comments are welcome.

Edit: ran spellcheck.

i dont seem to be haveing any problems today while my brother is at work so i was wondering if my brother and i playing at the same time would contribute to realm down.

not unless your brother was doing any of the above that results in r/d....having two people playing on the same ip just increases the chances of blizz picking up on "botting" behaviour....

my brother just got home from work and started playing. after a few min i decided to sign on, and as soon as i entered my pw and got into my accout.....realm down, so are we not able to play at the same time on diff computers with diff cd keys?

of course you can......i will try to explain again...to receive a r/d you or your brother must be doing some of the things in aragorn's post that blizzard has deemed "botting" behaviour....because there are two people sharing the same IP address it just increases the chances of one or the other of you accidentally doing something to cause a r/d....and interesting fact of r/d when using two computers like this.....you can cause a r/d on computer one and continue to play on that computer unaware that you have an ip ban for a few minutes....if computer 2 tries to get on bnet they will get the r/d screen even tho computer 1 is still up and going.....tell your brother to slooooow things down....take his scroll mouse away....sit down and watch exactly what he is doing to cause these r/d
