More help for the new guy

OK so I made my frost zealot.
And it was good, in normal I dont even need to attack
I proceeded to nightmare and things got a little tough, but I prevailed
after recently showing baal the meaning of chill out in NM.
I went to hell diff, and *BAM* I got beat down repeatedly in act 1.
Seriously I cant get past the den. I know a good deal of my problem is resists. I have like none. So what Id like is some information on how to fix it
Now keep in mind Im poor. LIke very poor. what little elite gear I have im using. so I cant trade for anything. How would I go about building up resists
I know I should be using a different shield, but I just cant find one.
People have been exceedingly generous to me and I dont want to ask for free gear here. I just want to know what runs etc would yield the best result in helping to build my resists.
currently Im using:
Gimmershred (yes I know its a throwing weapon, but it does way more damage than my sureshrill)
Heavens brethren curiass
Black oak shield (socketed w/ ptopaz, it was a gift)
treks (also a gift)
verdungo's (another gift)
Venom grips (yeah these were a gift too)
my rings and ammy are nothing special (well the ammy is +23 res/all)

any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah I better mention I tried rushing people thru normal for stuff but got burned like 4 out of 5 times, so I stopped

lol nice gifts... Ancient's Pledge? use the runes from the act 5 quest.

or get some socket sheild and gems will work too

duriels shell isnt that hard to get either.. but you could try smoke.. very very cheap.. Nef(4) and Lum(17)

Try to get The Ward (unique gothic shield) socketed with diamond it will rise your res by about 60 and also save those act 5 runes for realy nice paladin shield with about 30-40 res and 3 sockets then ral ort tal and you can forget the resistances. also try different armor like duriel viper smoke

Frost Zealots are item dependant to be successful in hell difficulty. So really you would need better gear. Charity works for me... accept all the gifts u can :)

Ok so if Im gonna be gear dependant
could somebody list some stuff that I should shoot for
(realistic plz)
Ive even begun to aquire a few uniques that I can use as trade fodder
so if somebody that knows about trading stuff could tell me what I could
trade away for good pally gear that would be helpful too
