anya dropped this today (ladder):

Carrion Wind Kurast Shield
75% block
5-82 smite (5 less than exile, 208 smite w holy shield on)
1 to paladin skills
+40 defence at lev 80
9% cold resists
18% lt resists
9% fire res
9%poison res
dam reduced by 3
attacker takes dam of 6
-20 req

It raises my smite dam from 2350 w upped hoz to 2550, of course the resists drop but it seems to me this is a pretty good drop.

for pvm it miight be ok, but not for pvp.

For pvp, it needs 30/20 block mods, +1 more skill, and it raised your damage because HoZ has a very average damage, 46-46. This shield has an extremely low min and a really high max, so it's not as dependable. That and as you said, this makes your resists go down.

Yeah that shield isn't great

I have this rare shield (http://users.aol.com/drwho74/rvortex.jpg) and even then a upgraded Herald is better and even more so since Grief runeword was released.

But with grief does it even matter what shield you wear? it's already massive damage, unless it's the HoZ that greatly multiplies the +Damage modifier...

Hoz is better because of the plus skills for hybrid builds like v/t

But , say for a v/charger, then the shield wouldn't really matter right? Chargers dont really need that many +skills, and the grief would more than take care of the vindicator part.

Yes thats an exception but then I'm not a fan of v/c anyway. Grief gives even base charge signifigant damage anyway.
