It depends!

Eth Tresher with 4 sockets
Eth Cryptic axe with 4 sockets
Eth Colossus Volgue with 4 sockets

U can use Non eth weapons too if u dont have the eth ones but try to get 15% ed damage! Since insight is cheap u can make the runeword or unmake untill u are happy!

You mean Larzuk. Most likely he will give you 5 sockets :(.
Cube socketing formula is a bit cheaper, although I think you are better off waiting to find an elite 4 socket polearm, or trading for one - should cost 1-2 pg.

1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon = Socketed Weapon of same type

It's a very cheap Runeword to make. I made one in a Poleaxe for early on, which can be used at level 29. After that, if you find an Exceptional or Elite Polearm, make a new one from that. If your Merc's already a high level, then it's worth it to trade for an Ethereal Elite.

i've use two made out of collosal voulges. they rock.

the cube recipe sorcyone listed has a random chance of socketing to any amount of sockets. (if it randomly picks to do 6 sockets and max is 4, it will be 4 socketed. so there is a higher chance of it being max socketed)
