Depends on gear and intended lvl, but generally yes, you will need to invest some points into dex.

I figured everyone had memorized or knew where to find the blocking formula by now. Just search through one of the build guides in the Strategy Compendium or through any of the class-specific FAQs. From there it's just plug and chug with numbers.

Well... Considering I was thinking of a Rhyme shield w/ Holy Shield (or, if I get lucky, a Sanctuary), I didn't expect to have to add a lot of points...

And I never pay attention to the block formula. I just add as much dex as is needed to get it to 75% block, and then add 2/lvl.

However, since Holy Shield adds more per level, that's a bit harder to plan for when you're not sure what to look for.

Or jus use an editor, maybe set ur char lv to 90. With intended gear, and holy skill lv.... then start pouring pts into DEX, to see how much u need. Shd be around 80+ (at lv 90)

Handy block calc here:

http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/block.php

Btw, I can use it, although I don't understand german:

1) Blocking chance after all items/skills
2) Dexterity
3) Char lvl
---
4) Blocking chance with current dex/char lvl (/wo items and skills)
5) Blocking chance with current dex/char lvl
5) Dex required for max block (for current lvl in the field)
