View Full Version : Opengl bug in Diablo II or wine?
Hello reader,
I'm running Diablo II under wine, which goes fine, except when starting with the -opengl option. It surely runs more smoothly compared to -d3d (direct3D) (I think because opengl enjoys more hardware accel via Wine), but there are visual errors, at least on of them can be seen on this screenshot I made:

This error appears throughout the game.
Is there anybody that can give me some information about this? Perhaps how to solve this problem?
I dont know whether this bug occurs under Windows or not.

It would help if you explain what this "Wine" is. I've never heard of it.

I believe it's a Windows Emulator. It allows users to play DOS and Windows games/programs on a UNIX machine.

Yep, sort of. WINE stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator, a recursive acronym. Read more about it on http://winehq.org/.
If this is not widely known on this forum, I fear my topic is of little use here.
One thing you can help me with is this:
can you tell me if starting Diablo II with the -opengl option gives a similar error under Windows?

Just tried it, and it's giving me the same kind of visual errors -- black lines across the ground anywhere I go.
So it is probably due to Diablo II. Too bad, if it was Wine, chances are that it will be fixed, since its in constant development, unlike Blizzard's Diablo II... or does the possibility exists that a 1.11 patch is on the way? I think Diablo III will appear sooner than the next DII patch if at all.
A slight possibility may be the gfx card/drivers. Can I ask what video card and driver you used?
I've got a NVidia FX5200 with nvidia's 1.0-6629 driver for linux.

I'm using an NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600, with a 6.6.9.3 driver.
There have been rumors about Diablo III in the making, and a few "hints" from blizzard itself, but nothing has been confirmed yet, and blizzard officially denies having started any work on it. We can always hope.
I just tried it too, and I get the same problem. I'm using the same video card as you (NVIDIA GeForce 5200 128MB).
The only support Blizzard seems to have on OpenGL is for the Mac, so I dunno.
I've tried the -rave and -glide options too.. they all look the same here, only -d3d works ok. Too bad.
Well, thanks for your help anyway.
