View Full Version : Need some advice...
I'm looking to make a Dream out of a shield. I have all the runes, but I need advice as to what shield to choose. It should be a normal shield, since base defense doesn't matter much with Dream (lots of +straight defense and very little eDef), and the strength requirements are lower.
Block doesn't matter, since she'll need a ton of dex to meet max block. Looks don't matter too much either, since she'll be in wereform most of the time. I've narrowed it down to these two choices:
Kite Shield
16-18 def
Strength required: 47
Light weight
and
Gothic Shield
30-35 def
Strength required: 60
Medium weight
The Gothic Shield has more defense and block (and a better look in the inventory), while the Kite Shield has less strength required and has a light weight.
Mostly, I'm trying to figure out if I'll miss the difference in weight if I use a Gothic Shield. Any advice is appreciated.

IMO you answered your question in the first two paragraphs where you said that base defense and blocking doesn't matter. The only thing that matters will be the weight then, i.e. a kite shield would be the better choice.

Most ppl make dream runeword in some sort of helm i.e. bone visage
rarely i see dream shield for trade or use. Most ppl make phoenix/spirit for shield.

I already made one in a helm. I'm planning on using both at the same time, for the combined lvl 30 Holy Shock aura. A single dream by itself gives only about 650 max lightning damage.

Are you sure aura lvls adds in this way? It is just "lvl 15 HS when equipped", not "+15 to HS"... ???

Yes, I'm sure. This works for all auras that are granted by items that you wear, except (I think) those that are different slvls, such as wearing a HoJ weapon and a Dragon armor. I may be mistaken on that last thing, though.

what are you making a were-bear sorc?
what are you making a were-bear sorc?
Yes, this is for a Werebear sorc and a Dreamer paladin, once the ladder converts into non-ladder, since that's the only place I play.
I made it in a Kite Shield today. The +defense turned out to be okay, but the other stats are low. Oh well, it's still a Dream.

heres what i was thinking for gear and skills when i get the time to make one.
tell me what you think.
dream helm, dream shield, goreriders, beast ax, enigma, aracnids mesh belt, magefist, 2 bk rings, maras, anni, (on switch cta, spirit), infinity on might merc or holy freeze merc, 3 fire skill charms.
20 enchant, warmth, frozen armor, firemastery, lightning master, 1 satic field and coldmastery and all prequisites.
with perfect gear i would do arround 2000-2500 fire dmg , 4-8000 lightning dmg, and arround 1000-1500 physical dmg before convition and monster resists are aplied having a lvl 13 lycanthropy and werebear, 17 bo and bc with 15 shout.
Heh, I don't want to go into the math right now, but you're seriously underestimating the damage. It's more like 60+k total melee damage, not 12k. Remember that Fire Mastery and Lightning Mastery get multiplied twice for melee damage. Meaning if you do 2k from Holy Shock (it's less, but just as an example), and have Lightning Mastery at 400%, your math would look like this:
2000 * (100% + 400%) * (100% + 400%) = 2000 * 5 * 5 = 50k.
It's the same with Fire Mastery.
As for the equipment, I don't plan on relying on physical damage at all. This makes the Gores pretty much useless. A Beast axe is way too slow; I'll be using a Phase Blade with 6 Shaels. Since this build is for PvP, I'm not going to use a merc. The Arachnid belt is useless, so are the magefists, and sort of the BK rings. Remember, this is a melee character. Would you use an Arachnid on a Fanatic Zealot? I'll be using Verdungo's, an Angelic ring/ammy & ravenfrost, and probably Frosties (if using ES) or something like Bloodfists instead. Not sure about the armor yet, but I suppose an Enigma would be useful. 10 fire skill charms in the inventory, with FHR/FWR/Life SCs as needed, and an anni.
The skills are pretty much the same as I would be going for. Not sure whether to use Frozen Armor or ES/TK yet. Cold Mastery and Static Field are a waste of a skillpoint, since you're not utilizing any cold damage (except for the puny cold damage that a ravenfrost gives), and cannot use Static Field in wereform.

ill asume you meant werebear. are the frames for ias faster in werebear form or what and how is ias treated as it was under the sorc ias or druid werebear?
nehow if its under the for combined with the fantiscm (lvl9)and the 40ias from the beast runeword you only need about 20 more ias to hit sorc's last frame rate correct?
also i did not know that the mastery was multiplied twice for melee type combat dmg. i agree for the aracnids with bo it really isn't going to matter nehow i will have to keep recasting it more than bear.
as for es/tk i think since you are less concerned with dex you should do them instead of frozen armor but it will require you to have decent mana even though you have warmth and this may knock off a ring and gloves for an soj and frostburns.
i think i will use this build for both pvp and pvm but i think i will focus more on the dex for block and use frozen armor to boost my defense.
Good luck with a max block build when using a Dream. Just be sure you know that you'll need a total of 353 dexterity even with a tower shield (greatest block) and a clvl of 99.
Yes, as I said before, this is for a werebear sorc. Werebears are definately faster than attacking normally with a sorc. The frames are calculated by taking sorc using werebear mode. The greatest speed is 5 FPA, reached by 95%IAS with a Phase Blade, so I was mistaken about the 6-Shael PB; I guess I'll use some different sockets, as I won't need that much IAS. If you use a Beast Zerker with a lvl 9 Fanat, and have 25% outside equipment IAS, you'll go at the fastest for that weapon, 9 FPA. Remember that wereform IAS works so that mostly the weapon IAS matters, and the outside IAS does very little.

With BotD PB, you'll be reaching 7FPA. With 5% or more IAS coming from other gear, you'll be at 6FPA, which the fastest you can go at with that weapon.

thanx for the help.
why would u want a botd or anything such? All the damage u do comes from the dreams and your lightning mastery, so u might as well hit with your bare fist and still do 50k+. What u need on your weapon is SPEED, and thats where the 95% ias pb comes into play.

Yeah, that's the point I was trying to make, too. I guess he just wants to have some physical damage as well.

i'd like to have some physical dmg a bit but i also like the +30 all atributes from botd that will help me a bit with enigma and my shield for maxing block and wearing spirit for prebuff. to me one more frame wont hurt that much.
