For example:
Tyrael's Might
Sacred Armor
Defense: 1322-1502 (varies)(Base Defense: 487-600)
Required Level: 84
Required Strength: None
+120-150% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+50-100% Damage To Demons (varies)
+20% Faster Run/Walk
+20-30 To Strength (varies)
All Resistances +20-30 (varies)
Cannot Be Frozen
Requirements -100%
Slain Monsters Rest in Peace
Indestructible
(Ladder Only)
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.10 or later)
Base defense is 487-600. Enhanced * 1.2-1.5 should be 584.4 - 900.
How is the defense of 1322-1502 arrived at? Could someone please help here?

its++++120-150%...does that get you closer to the numbers you were expecting?

remember that a 100% increase means you double the amount you start with. Since all unique items start with the highest base defense (at least i think they do, and my numbers work if you use 600) you do
600* 2.2=1320
600* 2.5=1520
It's 2 and not 1 becuase its based on percent increase not a mulitple. 100% increase means if the original number is 600, 100% of 600 is 600 and 600+600 equals 1200. I hope this helps.

Thanks, I didn't realize that unique armor used the higher number for both.

all unique items start with the highest base defense ...
Wasn´t it "the highest base defense + 1" ???

All items with +% defense from itself and not from the sockets (such as Pul runes, and also rune words IIRC) get the base defense set to max+1. Upgrading randomizes it again.

So let me get this straight...
Tyrael's Might
Sacred Armor
Defense: 1322-1502 (varies)(Base Defense: 487-600)
+120-150% Enhanced Defense (varies)
Using the highest defense for this item (600) I should get...
600 + (600*1.2) = 1320 +1 = 1321
600 + (600*1.5) = 1500 +1 = 1501
Should be 1322-1502, so...
Where does the extra one point come from?

Where does the extra one point come from?
Hey, that's why they call 'em "unique." Seriously, if you look at all of the other uniques, you'll see that the range numbers are calculated as the max for that type +1. Why? They're unique!
And if I understand you correctly, RTB, if I were to up Shaftstop, it would not give me (max +1) * X%. but would randomize within the range for the elite armor type?
Thanks,
DudSpud

You understood correctly. Upgrading armor (unique and rare) will randomize it within the range of the armor (477-600 or something for sacred armors for instance). This is why nobody ever upgrades Vampire Gaze or Herald of Zakarum. The risk of getting LESS defense then you started off with is quite high, and the requirements are the only thing with a noticable increase anyway.
The armors will use the base range for non ethereal armor EVEN when you upgrade ethereals. This is a bug, and will cause ethereal to just mean "no repair for you, monkey boy" instead of "godly Skullder's Ire with 2.5k defense" when upgrading. Weapons are different, they upgrade correctly when ethereal.
600 + (600*1.2) = 1320 +1 = 1321
600 + (600*1.5) = 1500 +1 = 1501
Should be 1322-1502, so...

The +1 is done before multiplication. So it's:
(600+1) * (1 + 1.2) = 601 * 2.2 = 1322
(600+1) * (1 + 1.5) = 601 * 2.5 = 1502
DudSpud: It's not just uniques, see post #6 of this topic.
Edit: Corrected, thanks helvete.
RTB, you may want to edit a couple + to * as far as I can see...
