I just need some simple crafting help because I have heard many different things now. First of all, for crafting caster amulets, I need p amethyst + ral rune + jewel + amulet. I know that in gambling, the character level determines what prefixes and suffixes you can get. Someone told me that in crafting, character level is irrelevant, and the ilvl of the amulet matters. Basically, what level do I need to be to be able to craft amulets with the "best" mods. I know there is no "best mod" but what level would you recommend I start at to get amulets that are the highest value? And if the ilvl of the amulet does matter, should I craft one from hell baal? Also, once I've crafted the amulet, if its trash, can I put it back in the cube for another recipe? Or do I need magic amulets?
Both clvl and ilvl matter with crafting (equally much).
Most people seek amulets with +2 to skills for one class. These require the crafted amulet to have ilvl = 90, which is quite a steep requirement. There are good amulets to be had at lower levels, but if you are planning to craft for high value, that is probably what you want.
The crafted ilvl is equal to (clvl/2) + (ilvl/2), both parts rounded down before adding. If you want that to be 90, ideally you want to use items that are ilvl 90+ and a char that is clvl 90+. If you can't do one of those, you need the other to be high enough to make up for it.
If you use an amulet from Baal it is ilvl 99, so that part of the equation provides 49, so to make it up to 90 you only need 41 more, which means clvl 82 or higher. That is the main (only?) advantage of using a Baal amulet to craft, you can do it with a lower level char. I would actually keep Baal amulets for re-rolling with pgems.
The neatest way to do this is to combine gambling with crafting. If you get a char to at least clvl 93, then you can gamble amulets that have a good chance of +2 skills, and even if they don't, when you craft them they will be ilvl 90+. That is because when you gamble the gambled item is at least ilvl = clvl - 5, and clvl 93, ilvl 88 produces an ilvl 90 craft. Any lower and you risk your craft being below 90.
Finally, I'm afraid you can't recraft if it turns out badly. You need a constant supply of new magic amulets.

Thanks a lot for the great help and prompt reply. Just got another two questions:
1. When you say reroll with pgems, you can only get another magic amulet correct? So you'd be hoping for a +3 skill tree one? Seems like a waste of gems, IMO.
2. When you say gambling at clvl 93 will give a good chance of +2 skills, you must mean rare amulets. And then you say if you dont get a +2 they will be craft lvl =>90. Just to be complete, if i get a bad rare amulet from gambling, can I use it to craft? If not, is there anything else to do with it other than sell to Charsi?

no you sell the bad rares to charsi and use the magics (that didn't get +3 skill and good mod) to craft

Muchos Gracias.
Thrugg, why would you stick a blue ilvl 99 amulet and three pgems in the cube and transmute? Are you _that_ short of +2 character skills amulets? Or is there some sweet suffix that have a even higher alvl than 90?
63000 gold to gamble an amulet isn't that bad, and it drops to 55kish with a Gheed's... And it could be rare as well. Of course, crafts have kind of a high requirement, but usually, it's just annoying that you can't use it until build is complete.
ilvl 99 is easy to spot, if the amulet drops off of Hell Baal its ilvl 99. Thats why you use it. Simply put it's ilvl >90 thus will be able to spawn +2 skills.
I prefer not to use anything for a "lesser" use than it could have. Admittedly, there is not much that a level 99 amulet can do that a level 90 one can't. But there are some things. If you read the current thread on multishot gloves you will see that you need ilvl 99 to max out charged skills, for example. Amulets can't spawn that many (in fact they can spawn fewer than I thought they could) but if you want any of them maxed you need to use an ilvl 99.
I suppose with the squillions of Baal runs people do online, that item x from Baal is a bit more common than it is for me who just plays a char through to Patriarch then retires him.
