just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. intrusion attempt disconnected me from game also. checked into it, and the attempt was from blizzard entertainment, irvine. ca. got the ip address and other info based on the ip address.
is this just a harmless mistake? or is someone within blizzard trying to hack their way into my acct?
any comments are really appreciated. thx.

It's not Blizzard trying to hack into your account. Your account is on their servers, they already have access to it.

Your talking about your firewall, right? Has this just started recently? Have you been able to play comfortably without interruption before? I'm only asking because bnet might be trying to send data to a port that is closed.

norton antivirus caught it. im not sure if its the firewall or not. and it has happened before. i just never checked into before. and yes, i can still play the game. this is the first time ive been disconnected from the game though.
my first thought is that someone is trying to hack my accounts. i mean, there isnt anything there that matters that much. items can be replaced easily enough. im just concerned that someone within blizzard might be up to no good. although i sure hope not. and thx for replying!!!

Your probably using Norton Personal Firewall. You mentioned this is the first time? I'd just record the log and ignore it for now. If it happens on a regular basis, then I would probably be abit more concerned.

If you really want to (or if it happens again), you can email Blizzard with the details (since you say it did come from their network), by either filling out their support webform (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=eSupport000) or emailing support@blizzard.com. Make sure you include what's written in the log provided by the firewall.

What a firewall thinks is an intrusion attempt can be something as simple as data packets from bnet. I've heard that there can be a fair amount of false alarms with firewalls.

Just be happy that it got blocked

Edit: Did the log mention what port the attack was on?

I would strongly advise you NOT to report this to anyone. You only keep people from doing more important work, as such "attack" warnings from personal firewalls are most the time false alarm, in if it was not a false alarm, the source IP of the "attacking" packet was most probably forged so you report to the wrong people.
Last but not least most personal firewalls dramatise the most minor incidents to be "attacks" to give the user the feeling they do protect them from real danger. This does not mean there is no danger, but there is much less danger then the average personal firewall wants to make you believe. There is nothing to fear about a ping packet ;)

Since the "invention" of these personal firewalls the network departments get spammed with messages like this, and there is absolutely nothing they can do with such a message. So simply ignore those silly warnings.
