Well everyone, I just started playing D2 again after a lil break and im already bored. Im going to start playing HC to see what its all about. Im thinking of making a Trapsin since they arent too gear dependent and ive never made one so it would be a fun new experience. Will I be able to MF effectively where I might find decent gear with just merchant bought gear and crap that drops along the way? Im also wondering if their are any clans or groups of people that wouldnt mind me hitting them up with the occasional question or help with a quest, not looking for any handouts or anything just some peeps to chat with. Any and all input/info is welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

What realm are you playing on ? Ill take a guess and say USwest , NorCal = Northern california? Anyways a trappersin is a great mfer to run pindle eld and shenk in nm and or hell.

Not any char can beat sork as a starter, simply because she has this skill called teleport! Seriously, andy drops very very well even without mf, and she's easy to kill over and over again. You'll have the basic items fast.
Also, nm meph likes to give some good items to get you started.
Hmm that is a good point and im also more familiar with sorcs which will probably help in HC. Are orbers still decent MFers and how item dependent are sorcs now days? Thanks for help.

Sorcs are slightly more item-dependent, but you can buy a Hell Meph worthy setup for like 20-30 pgems. Wizardspike, Whitstan's Guard, Vipermagi, Peasant Crown, etc. can all be attained for a very reasonable amount of pgems, so start collecting!
Basic idea is to max Orb, Mastery, and Telekenesis, then start putting points into either Ice Bolt for damage, Energy Shield for more protection, or Teleport for convenience.
Get enough str for gear, enough dex for 75% chance to block, and the rest goes into vit... boy, do I sound like a broken record or what.
Well i started a sorc and got her to 20. First cow i did i got tppked, heh :/ Guess ill try again but is HC always like this or am i just lucky? About how much dex do you think ill need for max block if i can get ahold of a Whitstans and what does telekenesis do for me? Again, i really appreciate any and all input. Thanks :)

Yes HC is filled with tppks. Just beware of any high levels that'll do stuff for free. You don't need all that much dexterity for max block with Whistans and just socket it with a pdiamond for resists. And telekenisis decreases the amount of mana you lose when you get hit while having energy shield up if I'm not mistaken.

use this formula to calculate how much dex you need:
Dexterity = (Total blocking * Character level * 2) / (Shield blocking + Holy shield bonus + % to Block) + 15
wtih Whitstans and aiming for max block it would look like this for a sorc:
Dexterity = (75 * Character level * 2) / 87 + 15
"Each point in Telekinesis makes Energy Shield's damage absorption more effective. By default, for each point of damage absorbed by Energy Shield, 2 mana points are deducted - a 200% ratio. Each hard skill point in Telekinesis makes Energy Shield 6.25% more effective. For example, with 8 points in Telekinesis, 1.5 mana points are deducted for each point of damage absorbed - a 150% ratio. With 16 points in Telekinesis, one point of damage absorbed equals one point of mana loss - a 100% ratio."
