Welcome to The Graveyard. Pull up a headstone, grab a cold one (http://www.lgl.bayern.de/de/left/fachinformationen/lebensmittel/warencodes/_images/bier.jpg) and feel free to raise some OT.
All of you are probably acquainted with the rules that accompany an OT discussion thread, but I’ll list them anyway.
This thread is for off topic conversation/discussion. Not mindless spam! If you want to post in this thread take the time to create a meaningful post.
Do NOT make any racist or derogatory remarks, flame, use foul language, link to inappropriate images, discuss hack/cheats or try to bypass the wordfilter.
Now that the official stuff is out of the way, I invite you all to join me in meaningful OT discussion while enjoying a nice virtual beverage. Or if you happen to have a one standing near your computer, an IRL beverage.
A new start and a new topic. May as well follow the trend with a new avatar.
Following this is everyone going to just leave their until it fixed or you may as well do it yourself. ?
As with a cold one, No alcohol allowed here i'm afraid as it still around 3pm so still working :( (supposedly)

First I’m going to mourn the loss of Naruto to a License. After that I’m going to play some Hitman. Maybe I’ll go and have a few drinks with a few mates. I’ll see if I can avoid schoolwork this weekend, but I don’t think I’ll be that lucky.

First I’m going to mourn the loss of Naruto to a License.
I heard that the US offically licensed Naruto and it forcing some of the fan subbers to stop. Somehow i have a feeling that this might not deter some of them anyway the frightening news/rumours is that they might change some of the names. To simplify for the western audience.
Sakura - Susan
Orochimaru - Blade
Kakashi - Mask
etc etc  (i hope they don't )
Feel the japanese voices give them so much more depth.

All the sites that bring you high quality subs, such as ANBU and Dattebayo, will stop subbing a series once it is licensed. They do this because they face a real risk of getting sued by the company that licensed the series. It has happened on several occasions.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind supporting the creators of a wonderful series. I would gladly pay for the series if I could get the original Japanese with English subs. What I’ll be paying for now (if I ever manage to find the DVD’s in Holland) is a dub with altered names and scenes that will be censored. Most likely the company that licensed Naruto will butcher every episode. The rumours about the name changes seems to back this up.
Is that the new one ?
No, it is the old one. I'm playing it to sharpen my skills.

I guess unless it has the same jokes as every other show it gets cancelled.
I mean, what's wrong with Zim stealing his classmates' organs so he can be more human?
Dib: You'll never... get away with this...

DB is still subbing :)
I hope they won't remove too much violence and blood from Naruto, although it's obvious that the swearing won't be translated. The rumors about the name changes started as soon as the news was known, and how horrible as they might seem, I doubt they'll change the names much. There is no understandable way for a person to say Sasuke in English, so there's a tricky one though. If they just keep the Japanese way of saying names they'll be alright.

From what I understand Toonami has a reputation regarding blood and violence. There is a real possibility that the series will be censored a lot. It doesn’t really matter to me since I’m not able to get Toonami. I’ll be reading some reviews regarding the DVD’s before I’ll try to get my hands on them.
Alternatively I could learn Japanese and get the DVD’s from Japan. That way I know I’ll be supporting the developers of the series.

I didn't play much diablo2 this weekend. I can't find the right driver to update my modem now that motorola has made "universal batches" that contain driver updates for many of their products. I had found the one that contains the update for my modem, but when I used it my modem no longer worked! Before restoring to factory settings (because of my father's addiction to spyware) last time I had updated it and a specific driver update worked fine. Needless to say when I did try to update the modem driver I had to restore to factory settings again, because the "undo driver" thingee didn't work either :)

One of these days I’ll find a girl who doesn’t laugh when I say I’m addicted to games.
One day I'm going to send a nice "postal" worker to go to the "Popular Magazines" and tell their little "love trolls" (aka Poll "Conducters") that excessive video game use contributes to intelligence, romance, friendliness, cleanliness, loyalty, and thoughtfulness. Also that not liking chick flicks does not neccessarily mean that the male is "not the right one for you". Perhaps this is why many of the women think that err...homosexual...men are attractive.

The only way for me to get Naruto legally is by buying censored and dubbed DVDs, which is what I don't want to do. ShoPro is gonna have a problem if even the names get changed to lousy ones.

One bad thing (in the uk anyway) is that the price of hl2 has went up with some of top high street retailers. So you be better fishing for a copy on the net at least then you be sure to get one fairely cheap. £25 the last i seen it when i bought it.

Make sure it Gundam Seed as there quite a different number of series with alternative timelines etc which i will not go into.
It certainly imo the best Gundam series (by a mile) to date.

Yes, when I was playing the cradle I was thinking that there are so few enemies that perhaps that's what the creators intended it to cause. It was well done, and despite knowing that the place was pretty much empty I still kept my light gem as dark as possible...that and I was running low on flashbombs and holy water :)

Don't forget the light effects when one of those things walked past a lamp. masterfully done. Although I did find the mission to be a little too long. It didn't feel very Thief-like. The story got a major and much needed boost, but the lack of loot made it feel like the mission dragged on a bit too long.

If one more S.O.B. cuts me off in traffic I'm going to ram my front end through their spine. Today some van pulled ACROSS a lane and cut me off, so I changed lanes, rather pissed, when another van cut me off in the lane changed into before I could pass the bastard that cut me off in the first place. It's not like I live in a big city, are people just naturally stupid?

Big City drivers tend to know what they're doing. They'll drive fast and zip right in front of you but if you get the flow, you don't even have to let off the gas. Small city people and folks from the 'burbs on the other hand... ergh. I've lived in Minneapolis and I've lived in Chicago. Believe me, aggressively defensive drivers are ten times more dangerous than skilled maniacs.

You should see the a-rib taxi drivers here in sin city...very quick to pick you up and drive through 5 lanes of traffic just to try to take a longer way to where you want to go...thinking that a bigger fare for you makes for a bigger tip for them...but in the end you just have to ask them if they confused you with someone that is truely a tourist...and not a local?
Normal fare for trip from The Strip to home is $12.00 - $15.00...this guy had it at $45.00 +thought he was going to get a big tip.
After getting his boss on the cb...got a free trip...with promise from the boss that it wont happen again...and hasn't so far.
End Results:
Getting a taxi from casino to home after night of winning: $12.00
Getting a a-rib that thinks he's gonna try to play you for a tourist: $45.00 + tip
Being a local of Sin City and hearing this scammer get chewed out by the big boss : PRICELESS

Most people have a condition that shuts off their brain whenever they step into a motor vehicle. The condition worsens whenever they are behind the wheel of said motor vehicle.
The people who suffer from this affliction tend to drive at speeds exceeding the maximum speed by at least 20 km/h, fail to use any of their mirrors, are incapable of locating their turn signal and have a tendency to ignore traffic signs.

Over here that kind of behavior results in very high fines and a lot of accidents. Most of our city-streets weren't built with cars in mind. Those that were can't handle the flow of traffic.

Manage to see a couple of really bad movies this weekend.
Hide & Seek - Robert Deniro go to new lows of making bad movies. I will not go into it due to spoilers but the great man's name doesn't hold the reputation it once did for me imo. No longer DeNiro = guaranteed decent movies anymore :(
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou - omg, i don't think i have ever walked out of the movies before no matter how bad the film was. This was almost unbearable. I just held in though cause this movie imo was 2 hours of utter nonsense. With a cast like Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett and Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum. Your almost guaranteed for a treat. .........Not so :(
This bizzare and often sur-real film almost leaves you in tears as the movie was just so cheesy and poorly made. Music composed from a casio music recorder, the only good thing about the movie was Williem's crazy antics but this was small conciliation for a disater in the making.
I have read a few reviews from some of the english critics, they all loved it. Think the general audience was very divided. This film is like lost in translation but much much worse :(
1/5 imo . IT was so bad you couldn't pay me to watch it again.
so hide n seek is pretty bad is it? bloody hell. the lady is making me go see it. this is the lady who couldn't sit through texas chainsaw massacre and made me leave too. just when i was laughing at his arm whirling around on the floor attached to a chainsaw. nevertheless texas massacre was a shoddy remake at best. but good for laughs.
The good thing about horror movies...they turn chicks on faster than pr0n. ;)

Hide & Seek was one of the biggest letdown movies I've ever seen. Exciting at first, then hopelessly derivative. When everything in the movie turns out to be a red herring you tend to feel completely ripped off even if you figured out the "surprise" through process of elimination anyway. Nicely filmed, great actors, horrible writing. (and some surprisingly poor acting moments from DeNiro in the end)
Kianu Reeves playing Constantine is about as big of a miscast as Oprah Winfrey playing Wonder Woman. You'd think after X-Men and Spiderman, people would learn a thing or two about how to do a comic book flick properly.
If I could cast a permanent decrepify on the colons of all people responsible for the above, I would.

Know what you mean, just when you thought bad comic flicks were history after great movies like Spiderman 1 & 2, X-Men 1 & 2 Hulk =okish, DD=okish and even Hell Boy was good.
Out pops Elektra, Catwoman and other seemingly bad comic flick undo all the good work of their comic counterparts and dragging it back to the level of poor storyline/dialog and extremely bad acting :(
Lets hope Superman and Batman Begins when it arrives will restore some respect to the movies of the genre.

Today at my new management course we learned that having to stay late because of meetings is a case of poor planning.
We also learned that marketing dudes just don’t know how to condense information. We all felt that what the instructor explained to us could have been done in one hour instead of four.

Why is it that in America a lot of people play D&D while over here it is only played by a few hardcore fantasy nuts? I guess I’m in the wrong generation. Gaming is also something that not a lot of people of my age do.

A trailer has nothing to do with the actual movie. All it shows you is how well the CG is. The actual story, plot, acting and build-up of the movie can be crap while a trailer looks good.

I don't know what's worse, a fungal throat (I REALLY hate mushrooms and I used to work at Warner Bros. while that film was being made... went onto the set with the 'multiple-holes-through-multiple-walls' schtick on it and the 'hospital/rehab-with-the-pools' junk.. was thoroughly unimpressed... especially if it has 'Ted Theodore Logan' in it.
But considering how much I hate mushrooms...
I'd see the film if it would mean I wouldn't get a case of mouth'rooms. :p

He starts cussing up a storm...blaming the 3 pallies in the group for taking what he claimed as his bodies to make his army...then he goes off on a sorc saying that the charged bolts are frying the bodies before he can get to them.
Little did this nooblet know...it was the only other Necro in the game that was using his nature's peace that wouldn't allow him to share in the spoils of the trail of dead bodies that was left behind...and I kept doing this for over the 8 games I was in with this noob until I finally told him after my last game to go transfer my commando gear over.

Ok, it isn't the end of the world, but it wasn't necessary to explain the force. I would have liked it if even the great Jedi Masters, who contemplate the very nature of the force and the universe on a daily basis, didn't know what causes some individuals to be born force sensitive.

George Lucas is a terrible writer/director who got very very VERY lucky. ILM and the actors made the original series worth watching. Look at all the "improvements" he made with special edition and it becomes clear that he's a blithering idiot. Musical number? WTH is that all about? Start a cabaret or something, don't mess with my happy Star Wars memories.
I'm looking forward to Episode III, for all the awesome Star Wars Fu because that's all I've gotten out of the prequels so far. Otherwise, I have no expectations. When the two lead roles can't act themselves out of a wet cardboard box you've got problems. Oh well, at least there will be lots of death and I guess Sammy J is finally going to get some serious action scenes.
It would be nice if we could just sort of erase the prequels and have Peter Jackson redo them. Not that he's a brilliant director but he's not a moron.

It was a birthday just like any other
The alarm went off too soon
Too old for candles, bells or whistles now
Which was once this days greatest boon
A rub from the girl, a lick from the dog
While many would like that reversed
Your too busy rushing, getting dressed
For your wonderful day at work
The boss can be nice,
But today is an ***
your coworkers are working
like they've smoked too much grass
Your big day, however, the company remembered
Your present is the pile on your desk
Paperwork, sticky notes, and a dried-up pen
Add more to the birthday zest
Festive smily faces and home-cooked dinner
Even a dead mole to boot
A song sung about a day the singer knows little about
But it was a birthday song, for you
Happy B'day for the next 25 minutes EST :D

Jango Fett was nice. I liked him, although he should have been more deadly when he fought against the Jedi.
That is one thing that really makes me mad is that they "buffed" up Darth Maul to be this Deadly elite Jedi Assassin that the looks and moves to play the part. But when it came to face the 2 good guys, they could have made it at least (imo) a bit more closer as he was so ordinary when it was time to face the heros. Maul still had them beat but he just stood there for Obi-won to simply slash him in half. I mean wtf? what happen to the fancy moves.? Yes he could have been caught by surprised but it highly unlikely someone with that level of skill could be taken out so simply :(
He was a exceptionally cool character who was played by Ray Park (whom i had the pleasure of meeting) but the could have done so much more
Same thing applied to Jango Fett. He was this feared galactic bounty hunter but again got caught out so simply, to their credit at least they made his fiight to the death that much more credible.
btw this is just me being hyper critical though :D

Necrochild, that is one sweet birthday song. I am sending a link to this page to my girlfriend so she can read about the whole "lick reversal" thing.
Thanks :)
I thought that lick reversal would be in good taste (no pun)

That is one thing that really makes me mad is that they "buffed" up Darth Maul to be this Deadly elite Jedi Assassin that the looks and moves to play the part. But when it came to face the 2 good guys, they could have made it at least (imo) a bit more closer as he was so ordinary when it was time to face the heros. Maul still had them beat but he just stood there for Obi-won to simply slash him in half.
For a little while Maul was almost invincible. He was fighting two Jedi at the same time and totally kicking ***. As soon as one of the Jedi goes down Maul becomes incapable of putting up a decent fght? That battle should have been way more intense than it was.
Same thing applied to Jango Fett. He was this feared galactic bounty hunter but again got caught out so simply, to their credit at least they made his fiight to the death that much more credible.
Although Jango Fett did fight with Obi-Wan on Kamino and he shot a few Jedi on Geonosis, he was killed way too easily by Mace Windu. Jango Fett should have given him a harder time, maybe even wounding him.

Jango Fett was the baddest mother****er alive. He killed a lot of Jedi with his twin blasters. He should have given Mace Windu a more difficult time.

Well, although I haven't been mesmerized by the last two star wars movies, I thought they were pretty good. Keep in mind that they are designed to include kids in their marketing (hence Jarjar, the rasta frog,) which is what we were when we saw the first 3, which is why we are interested in the current 3. And besides, I would go to the dark side for Natalie Portman, so I think the whole story rings true, despite the fact that it is set a long time ago a galaxy far far away that operates like earth in the middle ages with futuristic toys and rasta frogs.

This one is easy. It is because about 7/8th of the iceberg is still below the waterline. It can really **** up your boat. Just like giant tentacle monsters can.

Although you make a good point I still feel that Jar Jar should have been shot. We already have C3PO and R2-D2 as comic relief. Not to mention the ever present: "I have a bad feeling about this."

You are, of course correct, but you have failed to take into consideration the action figure/Halloween costume factor. How many out of touch parent, upon seeing the racially stereotyped Gump-esque protagonist, dressed their urchin as the rasta frog, or stuffed a stocking with his likeness?

Jar-Jar was a horrible Star Wars character (http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:SJu8-UIrC0UJ:www.bayareaspca.org/jar-jar.jpg), would've been a great Mr. Rogers character (http://www.cyberkids.com/cy/so/ga/images/jarjar.jpg), and sure did make me thirsty (http://www.matrixunloaded.com/images/about/jar_jar_pepsi.jpg).

All true, but he is not the first bad star wars character. Remeber Jabba's pitiful helpers? And do I even need to mention the Ewoks, especially the kid Ewoks? Jar Jar just had a bigger part, perhaps because amphibians have gotten the short end of the stick in Hollywood for so long. Sure, the Budweiser frogs had a good run, but that was commercials. Typically, amphibians are shown as villains (Mr. Toad's Wild Ride,) or dupes (the Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, which had to be a cartoon at some point.) Reptiles, on the other hand, have always been seen as a more dominant kingdom in film, such as in Anaconda, Dragonslayer, and the TV miniseries V.

Since I'm not familiar with any of that I can not say anything else on that subject. It is not something commonly encountered in the Netherlands.

The Ewoks were bad, but they didn't speak a lot and didn't star in two movies. What Star Wars needs is more Destroyer Droids. Those things were cool.

Ther are only two amphibians worth watching. Kermit the Frog and SAM (http://hometown.aol.com/necrochild313/evilfrog.jpg). And if it were up to me that would be made a law. With the possible exception of Mr. Toad.
Since I'm not familiar with any of that I can not say anything else on that subject. It is not something commonly encountered in the Netherlands.
That is surprising. When I was in Amsterdam, I came under the impression that there is very little that is not commonly encountered in the Netherlands. Very pretty girls there, though.
I am not familiar with SAM, although from the look of him, I would guess he is a MojoMancer, whose power is only truly realized through his contribution to the party.

I saw the original three when they were rereleased in theater, so a little over a decade ago IIRC.
And do I even need to mention the Ewoks, especially the kid Ewoks?
I agree with you, I thought the ewoks were worse than Jar-Jar, their simply Care Bear barbarians. The ewoks were just less annoying then Jar-Jar, but they did ruin the third episode IMO.
