View Full Version : Clay Golem - observation you may have not noticed before ...

This is something that hasn't been addressed by the necro forum as far as I can remember reading or from any of the guides ... Did you know that Clay Golem's slow effect isn't (as far as I can tell) applied until the monster/boss in question turns attention or attacks the Clay Golem itself?

Try it sometime.

- Tele on top of a boss (like Meph Hell) and you'll create the minion-stacking effect (include the Clay Golem in your minions of course)

- Move yourself from the pack and then cast Decrep on Meph.

- Notice that Meph still attacks at relatively quick speed (doesn't slow down that much) although you can tell the 50% slow from Decrep has been applied ...

- Then cast Clay Golem on the opposite side of Meph so the CG is 180 degrees from the minion-pack (which includes your merc)

- Notice that Meph still attacks at Decrep speed.

- Once Meph turns his attention to the Clay Golem like he eventually does that's when he slows down to a crawl and doesn't let off his nova attack etc ...

- Meph can then turn his attention back to the minion stack but he will now be under the influence of the Clay Golem special slowing aura but not before.

Interesting isn't it?

Either i've not paid attention to previous CG posts or people haven't noticed this characteristic.

I'm pretty sure I've read that clay golem's effect works even if the golem itself is hit, that may be whats happening. However I've had Hell Baal slow even without attacking gumby (with him working on my skellies), so maybe this is something to do with hell meph? I dunno...someone should do some testing to find the true nature of gumby.

I tried doing some more testing and this is what seems to be the case:

For Gumby's slow to be applied it looks like Gumby has to hit the target and/or combination of aura ...

I did the same scenario I described in the first post a few times and got one interesting result.

When Gumby was cast on the other side of Meph, Meph didn't slow down immediately but did slow down about a sec or two after but he didn't turn to face Gumby during that time

So, this suggests that Gumby hitting Meph has something, if not all, to do with slowing him down.

Anyways, I actually do remember reading something about this somewhere.

There goes my revelation ....

Slow effect from CG is applied to anything that touches or is touched my CG; i.e. if CG attacks something "successfully" it will be slowed, if something attacks CG successfully it is slowed. Both the AR and Defense of the CG is abysmal, this makes it far more likely, once you get past normal, for the enemy to hit the CG, than for the CG to hit the enemy. This is why, if Baal does not turn his attention to the CG, sometimes he will slow, and sometimes not. The CG will always have a 5% chance to hit, so the slow effect will be applied eventually, whether or not CG is ever hit.

From what I can remember Clay doesn’t even need to actually hit the monster. All he needs to do is perform his “I’m-going-to-hurt-you-animation” and that will trigger the slow. I’ll see if I can find the thread that discussed this.

I remember it too (no MM, you aren't delusional), and from my observations in pvp when he can slow an exile pally with some 30k-40k def I believe it.
