I recently decided to try something that I was earlier told was impossible - start a Sniper Viper. It was viable in v1.09, but I have not heard of any success stories for the Sniper in .10. So, I'm starting to pioneer one, and if it works, I'll write a guide on it.

For those who don't know, a Sniper Viper is an assasin who uses a bow in conjuction with Venom. Other highly useful skills would be BoS, CoS, Shadow Master, and possibly DS and MB for good crowd control.

My goal is to get a Sniper through hell solo, with gear that I find completely on my own. I realize that this would require a lot of hit and running tactics, and numerous Baalrunz-068, but hey, the build appeals to me.

It's not really meant for heavy PvM play - it can control crowds, but it can't really kill crowds. So, in later levels, I would imagine I would be doing a lot of zipping through stages. However, it should be relatively ideal for dealing with single monsters (i.e. act bosses), or maybe, even, dueling.

We'll see how it goes.

Here are my first impressions of my level 10 Sniper (Orev). This game is not just a point and click game, not even in normal difficulty. You have to be constantly aware of what's going on around you - dodging, running away from anything that comes towards you: monsters, missiles, minions, oh my! Single player, without a tank, this is difficult to get through. I found the jails particularily annoying, as there is not much place to run before you bump into another pack of monsters. I've tried to just run through things, but that gets me only so far without CoS, a high level of Bos, MB, or a good Shadow Master. It's a game of patience right now.

Anyways, any suggestions? I need to know especially what to look for in bows - I'm used to playing assasins, but not amazons, and the bow that I need will have to be particularily tailored for my uses.

clear normal and cow yourself- get an old fire sorc, stick demon limb on her, enchant your char, use a ravenclaw bow (many ppl dont have enchant sorcs, but if u do use her). You will breeze through normal like you have a free fireball. With a REAL enchant sorc you can solo norm baals

I'm talking about a sin, not a sorc.

I don't like sorcs.

He is talking about enchanting your assasin with an enchant sorc so you can kill everything in the way...

You can probably do around 4-5k dmg at lvl 1 with a good enchant sorc.

I just got done making a guide for a PVP version of this build, I must say hell mode is very hard to do solo with unless you have some very nice + skills for your traps. But the main problem doesn't lie in how fast or how many you can take on its being able to kill them. A lot of higher hell monsters are immune to lightning/poison so you will be facing most of them with very little damage. Your shadowmaster will help tank most of them and will help kill some of them for your DS but you will always be fightning an uphill battle if you get my drift.

My asn is based on PVP so it might be a little different for you because your going to try and focus your gear to fightning PVM.

For bows... Widowmaker is nice because with guided arrow you dont have to worry about AR, however that leaves you with about 500 phy damage, not very effective vs monsters. Maybe a WF with JAH or an eagle? Or if you play ladder try looking into some of the new runewords.

Also might want to look into getting a very nice merc, might or holy freeze would be my best guess.

As for bosses... I havn't really tryed to kill too many bosses with mine, but I would imagine with the right gear on you wouldn't have too much of a problem.

Well, any way you do the build, it's hard vs. groups of monsters...against a single target, it's not that bad (i.e. act bosses).

I did some research, and I think Widowmaker is the bow of choice for this build with the guided arrow - makes dueling a lot easier, and nothing to complaing about ITD. The only problem, being that it's pretty rare, is that it's also only ladder, making the build not very universal. I gotta look more into the runewords though.

Also, my build focuses a lot more on physical/poison damage (and anything else that might be added through charms). The only trap used will be DS, to help deal with monsters. Perhaps I'm not being articulate enough as to describing how this build should work....

Somewhat on a side note, as I'm playing through the game with this character (currently level 21), I'm finding CoS a godsend in dealing with pvm.
