I no longer have access to the Raw data in the MPQs and I lost the page I had saved with the TC group information. Can anyone please give me the list of groups?

Also, while on this subject. I'm interested in knowing how the game relates the TC group with the Area level when the upgrade takes place. In most cases I know this by heart but I would love to understand how the change takes place.

I remember thrugg explaning this before.

If you have Atma installed you still have most of the raw data you could ever need. Look in the ATMA_CONFIG folder, 1.10, and most of the text files from the MPQ are in there.

The drop process is more or less as follows (assuming NM or Hell, upgrading doesn't occur in Normal):
Kill monster.
Note area level. Monster level = area level unless it is a champion (+2), unique (+3) or minion (+3), or a boss (keeps native level defined in monstats.txt).
Check monster's native TC in monstats.txt.
Check monster's native TC's level and group in treasureclassex.txt.
If monster level is higher than the native TC level, it may upgrade.
TC will upgrade to the highest level TC in the same group that is not higher than the monster's level.

The upgrade only happens at this top level. Once you drop down to eg the Equip or Good TCs, no more upgrading takes place (otherwise it would break the drop-down structure).

Nope, that's the item's TC groups....I want the Monster's TC Groups.

I'll give out an example.

Mephisto in hell can drop up to TC wep78. Yet her mlvl should allow up to TC wep87...why is he hindered like that?

Well, you answered my Following chest question with that second link. All I need to know in that area is how to determine what max rune can drop from each TC group.

Still no answer for the Treasure Class Upgrade thing. (I understan all that was written in that link)

I'm not quite sure what you're asking now.
Mephisto's native TC is "Mephisto (H)", as listed in monstats.txt.
This TC is not in a TC group, it is a special one for Mephisto. Therefore, no upgrading for him. And since the "Mephisto (H)" TC only contains "Act 4 (H) Equip A", which in turn only contains TC78, that's all he can drop.

There is no direct connection between mlvl and TC. Most monsters (namely the non-special ones) can be eligible for a TC upgrade if their natural TC is lower than their mlvl. But you need to look it up in treasureclassex.txt to see what the upgrade is to.

Bosses do not upgrade, nor do any other monsters that have their own special TCs (including cows, quill rats, and flying scimitars :lol: )

So it is quite possible to have a high mlvl and a low TC, if you are a special monster. It is also quite possible to have the reverse. NM Smith and Griswold are like that, they have a typo that lets them drop the same TC in NM as in Hell. But they still have the right mlvls for Act 1 NM, so they can't drop much in the way of uniques anyway.

Mlvl and TC are really two distinct properties of a creature. 1.10 has blurred that a bit by adding the TC upgrades for regular creatures, but they are still different.

This page (http://www.diabloii.net/items/110monster.shtml) lists the main special monsters and their mlvl and max TC in each difficulty.

Now, as for runes - they drop through the "Good" TCs, of which there is one per act per difficulty. Up at the pointy end, they can drop up to these runes:
Act 5 (H) Good - Zod
Act 4 (H) Good - Cham
Act 3 (H) Good - Ber
Act 2 (H) Good - Lo
Act 1 (H) Good - Vex
Act 5 (N) Good - Ist
Act 4 (N) Good - Um

Mephisto (H) contains a possible drop of Act 4 (H) Good, so he can theoretically drop a Cham. Haven't heard of such a thing happening but it is possible. Likewise all special monsters have a pre-set Good TC they can drop from. Cows can drop from the top one, as can big D and Baal.

When regular monsters upgrade their drop TC they upgrade both their Equip TC and their Good TC. So just like a mlvl 85 critter can drop TC87, he can also drop Zod. For regular creatures in Hell, the mlvl breakpoints are like this:

mlvl TC Rune
66 66 Vex
69 69 Lo
74 72 Ber
75 75 Ber *
78 78 Cham *
81 84 Zod *
83 87 Zod

The * means that melee (hand-to-hand) monsters actually need to be one level higher to reach that drop breakpoint, eg a melee monster needs to be mlvl 76 to drop TC75. No real logic behind this, they are just defined that way.

Good answer, so just to clarify:

Any chest in act 1 can achieve the "act1(h)good" TC and drop that rune as a max drop? Or will this simply be based on area level for the first two thirds?

Since you almost answered my TC question (you did answer the mephy one):

The full list of these: "Act 4 (H) Equip A" and the max armor and weapon TC in each is what I want. Since I can't figure out what normal monsters will upgrade to (assuming their mlvl is higher than the default group) without the .txt file, perhaps a good MPQ reader can be given to me?

I kind of answered my own question in regards to runes...I found this in one of your past posts and compared it to the max TC list you gave above (I suppose melee can be ignored)
