I play on East and yesterday i got a Realm Down. I know this isn't uncommon but what sucks is that it's been giving me Realm Down for 12 hours now. I still can't log on.

I don't hack or bot. Anyone know what's going on?

You Might have been doing baal runs or mf runs too quickly in succession. Bnet thinks you could be botting so they give you an RD. No implication on how long it could last, my longest was a day for MFing way too quick.

if there is one thing about D2 that I hate, its realm down. This weekend, I logged on, did 2 baal runs (3-4 mins each), and after leaving the second, got realm down that lasted at least 8 hours...after that I stopped trying.

They really need a better strategy. The current one doesn't stop bots at all, just look at the dozens of 95+ paladins on west that do baal runs all day and night.

I really am sorry that I leave and join games so fast, I just copy and paste the name, so I'm only outside a game for like 10 seconds. Punishing players for being good at the game is unfair.

Sorry for the rant, but it has just really been bothering me.

Personally, I wouldn't say that being able to join games in quick succession, or joining baal games one after another constitutes being good at the game.

Also, apparently there's more factors that will result in a realm down than just joining/leaving games too quickly. It seems that most any form of spam can cause a realm down, which includes jumping between waypoints too quickly, opening/closing vendor shops in quick succession and using the mouse wheel to flip between your skills for longer than what would be necessary (as some people might do if they are bored).

There have been many people who have had no problems with realm down, and have managed to avoid it for weeks (sometimes months). I can't really see someone getting a realm down by doing nothing.

I just think that people need to stop trying to change battle.net to make it work for them, and instead should change what they are doing to make it work for battle.net.

Bnet with their great wisdom think that by implement realm down feature/bug would save their server from overwhelming by game creation request. This is one bug that would stay, so bear with it folk.

I had a similar thing happen to me yesterday but unfortunatly switching my ips by logging off of my isp and logging back on changes the realm down to a realm up  . But afterwards if i enter a game quickly and exit it quickly it happens again the good old diablo 2 blue screen of death REALM DOWN!

i switched to a new router and was getting constant realm downs. Turned out there was a port triggering setting for Starcraft included as a default setting inb the new router that was upsetting battle.net. As soon as I deleted the setting everything worked fine.

so my point is sometimes realm down might be because of a router or firewall problem.

it is true that battle.net needs to fix up on the realm downs. Like people had said before, joining a game to fast, lags it up and then you get realm down, and its just not 15 minutes anymore its consists of maybe a couple of hours, which is really unfair to people who just wanna play the dang game ,,

for instance my self...... i just do baal runs w/ people and or sometimes i xfer items with them and then they drop due to a realm donw, then i lose my items.
Others like baal runs to fast ...... I curenetly have players that will expire soon if i dont get this realm down thing figured out

I imagine the main reason the duration of the realm downs are increasing is because people just aren't learning. They do stuff too fast (like joining/quitting games, or what-not), get a realm down, then get back on and repeat their actions.

Stop trying to fight the system. It's a machine, you won't be able to win against it. Adjust your playing style. You won't "lose valuable item finding time", because everyone else has to adjust their style too. We're all in the same boat on this.

I sorry, didn't you just say "unfair to people who just wanna play the dang game"? In my opinion, doing baal runs after baal runs isn't "just playing the game". How about actually walking through the acts one after another. You'd be suprised how few realm downs you'll get that way.

I effing hate realm down. It's so retarded.

Saying that is sort of pointless. It's kinda of like something you would do in grade school. No-ones going to take you seriously, especially by calling things 'retarted', let alone without any supporting statements.

A few day ago, my trapper was mfing in a private game for more than 10 mins. She just put her foot down on forgotten tower lvl 5, when a disconnection occured.

Ok, so it was a bad day?

Then the connection resumed, and I got back to login, and presto!
A Realm Down !!

Piss me off.

realm down was made to stop bots, however all the bots are now anti-real down, so they realm down legit players while the botters can keep on mfing and lvling... blizz is suggesting we shud all use hacks etc, then we wont get realm down

Strike 1: Realm Down was made to combat server strain.
Strike 2: Bots aren't "anti-realm down", all they've done is .... slowed down (*gasp* *the secrets out*)
Strike 3: Blizzard is not suggesting we use hacks, they are suggesting we take our time, rather than running around like our heads are cut off.

I believe your out ;)

yeh to combat server strain by stopping all the bots, remember realm down was introduced back when there was a waiting list of liek 1000 ppl to make a game coz of all the bots. so HA, and why wud it hav to be 1hour+ long for legit players... i was just normallybaaling and ive got another realm down, whereas the bot hasnt. a tad unfair?

Bots aren't the only cause of server strain. I remember back on the last ladder season, I used to do a fair amount of pindle runs (I think my count was up to about 2500 by the end of the season). Each game only took about 10-20 seconds. Meph runs can be just as bad. Now, with all the people doing this, it puts alot of strain on the servers.

It wasn't physically the bots themselves that were causing long wait times, it was what they were doing. What you need to realise, is that legit players are very much capable of doing the everything a bot can do (and they do, everyone used to do pindle runs before the realm down).

Lets look at what we do know. Towards the end of ladder season 1 we had somewhere around a 1,000 to 10,000 queue wait. Well, bots are still everywhere now, but we don't have that queue wait anymore?

.. and why wud it hav to be 1hour+ long for legit players... i was just normallybaaling and ive got another realm down, whereas the bot hasnt. a tad unfair?

I can only speculate why the way is up to 1 hour +. I presume it's because people like you still get it on a regular basis. It's sort of like real life. If your caught speeding once, you'll pay a fine and have some points taken off; but if your caught multiple times, the punishment gets more severe (like, getting your license suspended).

Unfair? I don't think so. Remember, when you bought the game, you didn't buy battle.net. Nor did you buy the right to play on bnet. Playing on bnet is a privilege (even BNet's Terms of Use says that). If you ever find yourself tired of bnet, play single player. I don't mean this to sound as though it's a step down, because it's not. Single player (especially the older patches, like 1.07) can be an incrediable breath of fresh air sometimes :)

At one time I lost some nice items because of realm down. I was muling too fast. Well, you learned and dealed with it. Now I take my time and make sure the mules stay in the game for at least 3 minutes before transfering items. I haven't got realm down since.
