Hey, wrapping up my summoner to rush and MF with cuz I'm tired of staring at my hammerdin's head, when I realized that with the new runewords the summoner is even more dangerous PvP. The only problem with them, and it's a big one, is that if u do lose it's a pain to get all your critters back. Also, CE isn't doing u a bit of good pvp, and sometimes Revives are considered BM.

However, I see two ways to be dangerous. One is an anti-caster approah, the other melee.

Melee: Throw on Edge, and possibly bramble depending on their mobility, (IE if u don't want to tele around and minion stack) becasue the thorns auras will stack, toss up some BO and letem figure it out. The clay golem of mine has almost 50% slow on it anyway, so all melee is pretty much SOL. Also, I have a decent bone armor from a few points in wall and marrow bug.

Caster: Leave out both edge and bramble, ull need resists, throw on enigma, BO, bone armor, and tele around waitingfor the minion stack to go off. If they do manage to hit, ull have bone armor, minions with decent Res, and like 10-20 guys to take some damage for you anyway.

A Lightning sorc could be a problem, but I've honsetly never seen a light sorc duel the entire time I've been on bnet, so not too worried about it. Anybody see any flaws in this logic? ....or ways to improve the strategy?

Ive never actually seen a pure summoner but from seeing bone necs abusing summon stacking i can tell you that some skills (eg. fireball, glacial spike, poson nova, light fury) will still kill you despite the summons being on top.
Also sometimes you end up on top and will get hit by anything as normal.

Dont bother with thorns (they dont stack anyway) just use iron maiden.

Anything with splash damage will still kill you pretty easily. Trappers will also kill you because Mindblast will knock you off the protection of your minion stack. A skilled WW sin/barb will also knock you off your stack with MB or Leap respectively.

edit: Also, you're tele is probably alot slower than most casters so a necro for example will probably just whittle away at your summons with Teeth/Spear and eventually you'd be left defenseless.

Also, some crazy guy on another forum was saying he used his merc in duels....that's BM, right? Not to mention expensive....

Thanks for the help, guys.

Summoners practically always use mercs, it is a big part of their damage. Mercs, Revives, and skels are all generally considered BM. The only summon that a necro has that is universally (most of the time) accepted is the golem.

As a rough rule of thumb, a GM summon is one that can be summoned inside and outside of town. Mercs are only inside and Revives/Skels are only outside for example.
