On a scale from 1 to 10 {1 being "wimpy", 10 being "your a dimwit for thinking about this", how suicidal would starting season 3 with an untwinked pure fire mage {lvl 1 oak, trying to max all 5 fire elemental spells}, that is built to use an earthshifter, on hardcore, be? And how long / where do you think i'll get my death screen at?

And how long / where do you think i'll get my death screen at?Act 2 sewers. One bad volley and those archer packs own you. Plus they resist your dmg and all you have is firestorm at that point.

gogo suck life and fhr.

Hm...Personally I think you can make it to hell without dying...I mean..you can't use an Earthshifter until lv...whatever it is, it is very high anyhow..so until then you can use a shield, play through normal with a melee weapon and have resist gear.

I mean...you are not saying you are REQUIRED to only use your fire spells... so you can melee..or use a bow, right? And Fissue is a killer, specially if you have invested in firestorm from lv 1 onwards.

Duriel is a huge pain. I took him on with my elemental summoner when he was my first HC character this season. It took ages.

From my personal experience in 1.09 with summon/fire hybrid I started to see a twist to bad luck once you fight council.

So I'm gonna say you will find defeat without some meat shield against Meph guaranteed...

...and how is the score so far? Have you even started yet?

A pure fire druid will go through normal easily naked, so I would guess an archer pack in nightmare - or if you may use shields until you reach the req for the maul, hell. :)

You shouldn't run into any major problems till late NM/start Hell.

By then Fire Immunes are all over the place and you really need to depend on that merc...

Let's be optimistic here... FE/LE Bartuc on NM

Jek and garb are most likely right. I've built 4 full fire mages {4.5, one never got past 41}, and i always push all my charactres threw the game unrushed.

Det, this is going to be for season 3 ladder hc.

I plan on only using sage as my summon, but either using a holy freeze with the pole arm with conviction to help with fire immunes, or a prayer merc with the pole arm with meditation for double healing. Not sure which one yet...any ideas?

The conviction aura runeword is quiet costly, so apparently you expect to be lucky in finding runes. A very expensive experiment.

I play through the game right now with an untwinked group and in 8 ppl hell games, killing with fire is painful. I did a solo game however yesterday and found that Volcano is quiet able to kill Fire Immunes.

I now have:

20 Firestorm
22 Boulder
25 Fissue
25 Volcano
12 Oak
1 Grizzly

Barb merc who will eventually get a Lawbringer.

Playing HC ladder...so I stick to my suggestion that you can indeed survive for a long time. Once you start using the Earthshifter, I expect death...Maybe a point or 2 in Cyclone armour will help. It should be quiet strong with your + skills.

Fire elemental side gives both fire and physical, if you park monsters (only those immune to both physical/fire then you could make it through Hell. take your time and you should be able to make it.

A shield and high dex are a must, also patients and preplanned fights. I would only play this in a solo game though, infact single player would be a much better way to go do to the possible lag situation. you're going to be fighting this build from mid-late nightmare onwards, but is it doable.

Good luck with the hell ancients 99/100 times one of them goes fire immune.

What i usualy do there is fill my inventory with full tp tomes / scrolls. I can usualy kick it down to if i'm lucky one fire immune thats not stone skined/other bad mod.

Getting through norm would be easy as it should be for almost any build. Hell I got a pure curse necro to diablo nm (merc kept dying and got to costly to raise him) so I died. That was no summon and no pnb skills.

I would say getting through nm wouldnt be bad if you shopped a lt wand that would enable your merc to stay alive a lot easier. D in nm will be your biggest problem i think. I dont know what other fire immunes there are in nm though. I would personally say act 4 is where you would die first.

Dead act 1 hell when you run into fire immune fanat pack of carvers while carrying that earthshifter. 2 handed item + high str req = very low vita + no block.

Fire casters are excellent untwinked chars since they don't have wait for lvl 24 or 30 before spending skill points. A lower resists wand and sheild before you equipt earthshifter will easily get you through nm. Holy freeze merc would make life easier.
