Ok I'm thinking of making a PvP nova sorc (clan honour style). Yes I know, more than likley it won't work. However I was wondering if anyone has a link to skill damage past level 20, I was told that nova *may* be considered a melee skill in terms of dueling... just wondering how much damage nova could do at max levels.
Items would be (when I can afford)
Death's fathom
Perf 5/5 lit Griffons
Ormus's nova (15% lit)
Magefists
IDK what else really, shooting for 115% FCR... so I'm guessing Spirit (35%fcr) is nessessary to reach that point.
Also does static feild work in PvP, would it be worth getting to a decent level as well if it does?
I am also planning to max Lit mastery, nova, telekenisis, esheild and warmth.
Any suggestions, and espically a link to, or a table, for nova damage would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
P

Deaths fathom is for cold sorcs. I suggest a 3/20 lite eschutas.

I guess I misread fathom... I thought 25-40% resists was -25-40% enemy resists when I first read it. Bleh
any more thoughts?

A level 45 (maxed skills, +25 skills) would grant you a 2515-3240 damage Nova, 2878 average damage.

With the +45% increased damage from facets/gear which is added to your mastery in damage calculations if I'm not mistaken, you would get a damage range of 2693 - 3470.

After PvP penalty, that is 514 average damage. The rest of my math is based on the concept that pvp penalty is dealt with before resists.

With a perfect Infinity (-85%) and your -30% res, you have a total of -115% res. All these numbers from here on in assume these are the opponent's resistances after the hell penalty.

- Against an opponent with 0 (-100 res) res, you would deal 1028 damage.
- Against an opponent with 100 (-15 res) res, 591 damage.
- Against an opponent with 150 (35 res) res, 334.1 damage.
- Against an opponent with 185 (50 res) res, 257 damage.
- Against an opponent with 200 (85 res, 75 max) res, 129 damage.
- Against an opponent with 200 (85 res, tgods) res, 77.1 damage not counting absorb. After absorb, I believe you'll be left doing 37.1 damage.

I'd say the most reasonable estimate would be that you'd be doing around 300-600 damage pvp after resists with your merc since I'd imagine most people would have around -20 to 50 res after all your gear and conviction.

However, chances are you will have your merc killed in very short order especially against a decent necro or orb sorc. Teeth and orb will eat your merc alive in seconds. -30 res probably won't make too much of a dent in thier res, but here are some numbers:

0 res - 30 = -30 res left. 668 damage.
75 res, none stacked - 30 = 45 res left. 283 damage.
100 res - 30 = 70 res left. 154 damage.
105 res - 30 = 75 res left. 129 damage.
115 res - 30 = 85 res left (tgods). 77 damage, 37 after absorb.

There is a reason you don't see Nova sorcs around anymore. Not only is being close and personal to your target generally a really bad idea these days (windies, ww barb/sins, and hammerdins to name a few) but your damage is pretty low and easily negated. I didn't even throw in Wisp rings into the equation, but that would probably kill your damage completely. Chances are most characters will outshoot you with higher damage attacks. I know my Bone necro will be doing about 1k pvp to you if try to tank him.

Thanks for the info, I knew it was hopeless... :(

You wouldn't happen to have Ormus Robes like those on USWest would you? I'm, contemplating a nova build for PvM. At the very least it will be fun for rushing people in Nightmare and Normal and should be awesome for doing cow runs in those difficulties.

:howdy: It isn't pointless, but you need excellent gear and a backup skill in order to make it in Hell Difficulty but until then, MF in Nightmare until you have gotten the gear you need to complete hell with a Nova sorc.

I was talking about the PvP aspect... but even 1 absorb basically negates all your damage :(

I was hoping for somthing different for dueling melee with

I actually dueled a Nova Sorc once; she kicked my ***. The key was: 200 FCR.

Suicide Branch, VMagi, Lidless, Griffons, 2/20 Ammy, Magefists, 10 FCR Rings, Arach and a ton of Lightning charms.

Nova doesn't do much, but as fast as you can cast it, you basically stunphuck people into death; kinda like a Fire Trapper if you have ever dueled one.

I think this build is really cool!

20 Nova
20 Mastery
20 EShield
20 TK
20 TStorm

10 Lite GCs, and I think it could do decent! :)
