the main question is whether you want to go block or vita. That will decide which shield.

I dont see why u should use storm? Storm it's better if u are a melee character!

That means if I was you I would pick lidless before storm!

Other options are prudence or Spirit if you play ladder!

Prudence is not as good as Lidless! Spirit is nice! But u need to reach the strength req to use spirit in a monarch shield!
Spirit is better than Lidless imo! and the runes to make it are cheap!

Are you playing hardcore or not?
I'd go with SS and a spirit on the switch if you are planning on getting the str to fo with Stormsheild why not have a more powerfull caster sheild when you need it.
Other alternatives to SS are Whitstans (best block in the game), or as I've just learned Moser's with 2 pdiamonds gives you great block and huge resists as well.
Just some other alternatives for you to choose thru.
It all comes down to preference and affordability really

Sure u are right about the attributes of Storm! it's a very nice shield!

My answer is based from my own point of view and how i uses my sorcs! and thats mainly mf! And for my purpose a lidless with a pefect diamond is enough!

It really depends on how u want to use your sorc...

IMO, Stormshield or lidliess are not good for meteorb sorcess, they are good for melee sorecess.

Instead, you can have the low str, low dex, low eng, but High vitalitiy, I mean higer than 300 vita. Once you have 1000 life and have a holyfreeze merc , you hardly die in hell.

I use SS on my meteorb sorc. The high blocking +damage reduction to me is well worth the strength reqs. I get the added life, resists, and mf from charms and Tal's Set, and she works just fine. Considering the Sorc only gets 2 life per point in vita, I prefer to invest in SS and some life/resist charms and skillers with life--one 20 life sc is two levels worth of strength or dex. A fire skiller with 30+ life is 3+. I get hit less often, and when I do it hurts a lot less with SS. Besides, I think she looks cooler with the SS than Lidless. :cool:

Id rather spend an extra 50 pts on SS, and get the damage reduction, massive def, and resistances to a measly 100 life that can be had with 5-6 small charms.

To me its a no brainer to use a SS. When It comes to ranged attackers and hell gloams, I have no wories that I can take several hits before dieing.

At lvl 83 I have 830ish life with no small charms of vita, and over 70% chance to block.

Well, I am poor and I dont have many +life stuff. I reached 1000 life when I had aboub 240 vita, and since then I seldom died when I mfing.

Stormsheild not only needs extra str, it also need extra dex to reach better blocking. But the thing is when you do metor or orbs from afar, why need blocking?

I'm also not that rich, and my meteorb has 1100 life, 75% block with SS and max resists. You can't ALWAYS avoid being hit, especially if your connection is slow (like mine), and having tried both the vita and the block route I found that it's much easier to survive with SS.

Besides, life isn't difficult to make up with charms. Just start off with using whatever reasonable +life scs/lcs you can find and replace them with better ones you find as you go along. I started out with no life charms, and now after many pit runs I have about 8-9 scs with 18-20 life which didn't cost me anything :D

Needless to say that lidless wall is no longer "in tha zone". Spirit is way better. So the fight is between spirit and ss. Who wins?


SS of course! 75% block and 35% damage reduction totally outshines the 500+ life u could get with a vita build. I have played so many sorcs to know this. Blocking sorcs are so much more survivable. Have u ever played with a melee char with max block? If yes you could probably get surrounded by monsters and still barely take any damage. Well its the freakin same for a blocking sorc. U stand in the pack of monsters with your merc on your side, spam meteors on your head. You will have enough time to tele if u finnally get hit too hard, time that u wouldnt have with a vita sorc.

mxxerr asked why need blocking while u cast meteor and orb from far away? Because when i had a vita sorc i would die to ranger attacker mostly. 75% block means 1/4 the missiles gets at you. Thats kind of like having 75% damage reduction vs physical attacks. So u take 25% of the damages, which gets lowered by 45% (damage reduction from SS and Shako). Thats around 88% of the total damages nullified, which means having 7X more life (i know its not rly like having 7x the life, but still i for sure die 7x less with my blocking sorc than i died with my vita sorc). Dont forget that ss has good resists and defense too.

Yeah, honestly to me its a no-brainer. I do exactly what kanuks said, stand next to my merc and spam meteors on myself and very seldomly have a problem when taking on the likes of Meph, Andy, Pindle, and most other monsters. The only place I stand back is WSK. I can't imagine how quickly I would die, higher life or not, in WSK, to, say, those clusters of dozens of rat men with blowguns if it weren't for my high block rate and DR. And to be fair, I waffled on my build and didn't make up my mind until late on where to put my points between dex and vit, so at level 90 I only have about 60% blocking. Still, it adds up.

Thx everyone. I choose SS then. It is my first choice but then i read all the posts about lidless and that posts makes me confused.
